Want to purchase a St.Croix 6'6" Light, Fast Action, will this be the right rod for Jigging/Lindy rigs?

For rigging it should be great, but for jigging I think you would be happier with a medium action with the fast tip. I have a couple of the St. Croix Premier 6 footers with medium action fast tips for multi-purpose use. They seem to be just right.

Medium light would probably be better than Light. The ML handles 3/8 and 1/2 lindy rigs good. You can even use 3/4 if necessary. Check out the lure weight specs on the rod. http://www.stcroixrods.com/products/rods/avid_spin.html

The Light action is for lighter rigs from 1/16 to 5/16.

I personally use ML most of the time for fishing rigs on the river.

Just got done building a 6'6" medium weight fast action SCIII (avid?). I love the action for jigs, very nice tip action. Very light, it was easy to balance with a little weight in the end of the blank before I put the cap on, and feels very nice in hand. It's an excellent jig rod, and should make a good rig rod too, though personally I usually like a little softer, slower action for rigs.

I use St. Croix Premier PS66MLF and PS70MLF exculsively for rigging. These would not make for very good jigging rods, however. You'll need two different rods to handle the two situations. For jigging, look to a 6' or 6'6" medium action, fast tip.

I've got the 6'3" avid series rod with the extra fast tip, and this rod rocks! The feel you have is unbelievable.

Dave, I thought you were dyed in the wool G. Loomis man? I was almost afraid to share a boat with you with all my St. Croix rods...

W1, if price is no object...get the St. Croix Legend Elite 6'3" (ES63MXFCS). I use this rod for the applications you're talking about and it's awesome.

Best Regards,

The price is Avid or lower, what about the Fenwick HMG 6'6" light, they rate lure weight a little more? 1/8-3/8oz. would this be a more all around rod?

Thanks

I jig with Loomis, I rig with St. Croix, I troll with Daiwa (and whatever rod happens to not be broken at the time!)

Heading to Red Wing tomorrow - that will be a Loomis day :)

Have a good weekend

Ditto the Avid 6'3" medium xtra fast, sensational jig rod. However, the Premier series would offer you a less expensive option. I would move to the medium-light power, fast action rods in the Premier line, length is a personal choice, 6' to 7'

How do you break a rod? Trolling in the shallows?
