i just ran across one in a store on closeout with internal gps without navionics bundle for 675.00. sounds like a good deal when cabelas has them for 999.00. are these a good unit? a bigger screen would be nice for the side imaging but the price sounds right! any input on this unit would be appreciated.

I love my 798 !
The only problem I have with the unit is the screen size which is great for everything but side imaging. When you fish you usually use a combo screen with GPS and some form of sonar / imaging. If you use the GPS / Side Imaging view the side imaging is too small to be useful. I ended up moving my 798 to the bow and went with a 997 for the console. I got my 798 with the NVB for $1000.00 delivered and have seem them a little cheaper now. That is a good price as the unit runs $200 less without NVB.

I have this unit and have had an issue with it since I bought it. The transducer mounts keeps coming off at high speed. I have had it adjusted three times and it still comes off at high speed.

I was going to put it next to my x 135 on the bow of my boat and use it in the full screen side imaging, would you be able to see the details of the bottom or is the screen still to small?

I think from the bow it would be fine, especially if you have it viewing only 1 side or the other. With the side imaging your view can be either both sides, left only or right only. When you view only one side at a time it is definitely easier to read. I just moved mine up there last fall and since I finished the year trolling on Saginaw Bay I only got a chance to use it once in the river and it worked fine.

Hmm, I never had this problem and the unit worked great on the transom. There is a locking screw to keep it from flipping up, are you using that?

at that price I would make sure it has a transducer with it.

The units that have an interanl antenna for the GPS... any trouble with signal reception if they are mounted in a electronics locker like a Pro V or Pro Guide tiller?
