I'm going to fish a week in Canada. I will rent an aluminum boat. Are there any decent fishfinders that work on batteries, and that I can just connect to that boat and they will work?

I understand that I will never get a quality like from real fishfinder mounted on a big boat. But at the same time I would not like to waste money for something that just calls itself fishfinder but does not really work.

Any suggestions? Can I buy something decent and not very expensive to mount on small 14' aluminum boat, or better just dispose this idea?

Thank you in advance,

Yury

The Fishing Buddy by Bottomline is not a bad sonar. It's totally self contained with a clamp mount and runs on D size batteries. I think there are a few models to choose from.

The new Lowrence x51 is about $180 it is the closest to real time you get 240pixels. The unit also has a flasher feature.
