Does anybody utilize downriggers for walleyes on the lakes other than the Great Lakes? I've read some posts about guys using 3-4 oz. bottom bouncers, trouble with tangles, keeping the line at 45 degree angles etc., but haven't read about utilizing downriggers. Great Lakes fishermen obviously use them to get lures in the thermocline (strikezone), why don't walleye fishermen use them to troll and keep the offering in front of fish. Could it be because the bottom contours are more irregular on inland lakes versus the bathtub bottoms of the Great Lakes?

That's probably one reason, btu the biggest reason is probably because most of us on the Great Lakes also chased Trout and Salmon at some point in our fishing time and we're acquainted with the operation. Because we're comfortable with the in's and out's we are more apt to have and used downriggers. They definitely come more into play the deeper you need to get to reach fish. At shallower depths there are different ways to get to the same depth and still be efficient.
