View Full Version : Aluminum Boats verses Glass
I have a brand new Crestliner and fish many walleye tournaments. When I get on big water it seems I'm wet and the ranger boys are not and of course I get alot of crap about this and I really want to know if Iglass is the way to go because it seems more and more pros are going glass.

PLEASE------Let's not start this again.
This can be a touchy subject, with a lot of clashing opinions. the main thing is about the ride and getting wet. one thing anybody has to learn when fishing different kinds of waves, what angle to hit the waves, and at what speed to be safe. there is not much doubt, most glass boats will ride better, but i have been with people in glass boats and got plenty wet, and i have been with people in aluminum boats and been very dry. but in a strong wind the person on the downwind side of just about any kind will get watered down pretty good . the biggest thing is to be safe, and responsible, life cant be replaced. the hull design makes a difference, but the thing to learn is boat handling, and what your own boat does in different wave situations. i hope this helps a little. good luck and good fishin. take a kid fishing this year, you wont regret it.

John, I to have a crestliner. The ts 202 but like den said just drive with some common sence and things will be ok. I fish tournaments too and the boat has never slowed me down. the worst ride I ever had was in a tracker targa 2000 on lake erie, the guy thought he could do 40 mph in 4 footers. By the end of the ride his kicker was about ready to fall off, but the weird part was that he couldnt understand why. Some guys think ther boats are indistructable, but ther not.

Get a 20' boat. LOL, Get a Hydra-Sports from Florida with twin rigs on it. It should handle most anything the big water has to offer short of a gail. Made by the same people that own Ranger, Lund, Crestliner, etc... anyway.
