I’d like to hear from anyone who has used the Humminbird 400TX. How do you find it? Does it compare, for example with the Lowrance X65 or the Eagle Ultra Classic? The 400TX has 2400 watts peak to peak (300 watts RMS) whereas the Eagle has 600 watts peak to peak with only 75 watts RMS. Does this mean that a fishfinder with more RMS is more powerful (and more able to pick out fish, bottom, thermoclines, etc) than one wwith less RMS?
Thanks for your help.

There has been a LOT of discussion on this board on Humminbird locaters and most of it has been bad. Possibly this commentary is on the low price units that are strictly for finding the bottum and that is about the limit of their use. This is a reply from the only 400tx owner on the board that has stood up for their unit. Mine is a portable which is what I need as there is no storage battery on my small boat. It works very well for everything that I want, namely, depth and the submerged structures in the flooded lakes I fish. I need to know what my plugs might get hung up in and it shows stumps, brush and fences as well as the bottum consistancy and variations. It also shows fish reliably which some other earlier models didn't. The triple transducers give me a 20 ft wide band in 10 feet of water so that a plug on the end of an 8 ft rod doesn't find a new home on the bottum. 2 - 6 volt batteries will last for 80 hours of actual usage time and it will tell you the usage time and voltage left.
I hope this will help. Now the Lowarance people can tell you how bad it is.

I also have a 400tx portable and have no problems with it. I did alot of research before purchasing the 400tx. There was alot of pro and cons about Humminbird. For the price and what I use it for it best suited me. So far I have not had any problems with it and very pleased with my purchase. It shows me structure, depth and fish. That's all I ask for. Hope this helps.

Ron,
I'm glad to hear from another 400 tx owner. You said it well, it's great for what I need it for.
