It may not do much good with the tropical weather we are getting but for what it’s worth, BigE22 and I went to SBI on Wednesday and Thursday of this week and I am sorry to report we got skunked unless you consider a 4 # catfish and several dinky walleyes a success. We were setup in the basin between Put In Bay, Rattlesnake & Green Island over 31FOW. We fished from 9.00AM until about 5.15 on Wednesday and Thursday from 7.45 until 1.00PM. Same results both days. We used Jeff Jump for the first time and think he's a good guy and all but the larger fish and quantity just weren't there. I wasn't real pleased with the shanty we were in either. It had left over beer bottles and other trash in it plus it was really small for two 6', 200# plus boys but it was only $100 per man with room. We marked lots of fish and were able to get them to follow and after downsizing to the smallest Jigging Rap (1/4oz) I own, hooked a 9" Walleye. I used everything in my arsenal but believe we were wasting our time where we were set-up but unfortunately, you don't get to move when you are at the mercy of a guide. Our guide was talking with several other guides who also reported the same scenario so it probably would not have mattered if we moved but it would of made us feel better. Based on the lack of carcases at the ramp, I believe they were being straight up with us. (They usually dump the prior day catch carcasses on the ice to excite you!) Next time though, I'll use one of the airboat guides who have portable shanties and will move you when you ask. Like I said, it probably doesn't matter with the heat wave we are getting but I promised I'd report on our trip. Here's to hoping we get another shot at the big 'eyes yet this season...
