View Full Version : Trolling motor mount question
Anyone use a MinnKota quick disconnect mount.
I have a new MinnKota Foretrex 80lb, and a quick disconnect mount MKA-23 (the plastic one). Haven't put em on the boat yet, but was wondering what I was in for. Are these mounts any good, will it handle the torque of an 80lb/62" motor? It's a Alumacraft Trophy 195, and I'd like to be able to remove the motor, but if it can't handle the torque, I'll just thru bolt the motor and be done with it.
Thanks,
Gary

They use basically the same mounting holes that the motor does. I have not had a problem with mine. The only thing I have noticed is the need to reinforce the bow a bit with the bigger motors. Straight pulls are fine but kick it in sideways and you can see the wood flex a bit. It is the same with and without the quick release installed.

I have the same mount, MKA-23, that is used with a 80# Terrova and have had no problems at all. I have not removed it very many times but it works well.

I used that mount for 4 years now and so far so good. Mine is the MaxxumPro but I guess they are about the same.....80lbs is 80lbs. I got 2 pieces of metal plates (6" X 4") to replace the Washers for that bolt through. I might be over doing it but makes me feel better while on Speed100 and turning at the same time. I dont' take the TM out except for Winter Storage or Repair........although I have not tried that before but I wonder how you going to hold on to the 70lbs TM and line up the bolting holes (if not using this mount)....must be tough.
Thanks for the replies. I do have easy access under the bow, and have some 1/4" aluminum plate I can use as a backer. Sounds like a good plan.
