I would come up to Irrigon, launch there and fish bouys 62 and 64, first bouys up river coming out of the marina. Another area to hit would be the green can (bouy) just below the bridge between WA. & OR. just below the McNary dam. Watch for boats on the river they are aways fish the better holes. Down river from Irrigon is Blalock Island it can produce big fish, I boated one (10#) their in March of 08. Drop me a PM and I will help any way I can. Good Luck.

Tri-cities, WA area has produced MANY fish in the over 16 lb category in the last few years - my bet is the next record will come from that area, or maybe even higher, near Wenatchee. Below McNary has some fish, but the WA waters seem to be producing the bigger, better fish last few years. Check out the 10 lb page for some trophy fish taken below Wenatchee right around New Years 2010.

I know Mark S. as I fished the Wenatchee area 2 week ends ago and he was in boat near by, great guy. If you go up there check the WA. Regs. Special rules only alow single barbless hooks! Just got off phone sounds like 20 lbs caught at Ruffus Woods yesterday and another 20+ today in the Tri Cities area? I fished the buoy 30 area today (thur.) and will be back there Sat. Hope to find out soon if the big fish are for real? On Wed. hit Irrigon in the fog picked up a couple but nothing big.

Lots of eyes up in the Wenatchee area. Only three dams between that area and Ruffus Wood witch produces a lot of Walleyes. Heading out this AM (Sat.) to fish just below the mouth of the Snake on the Columbia. I would guess that there will be a lot of boats today with all the report of a big fish being caught this last week. Keep you line tight.

It's the lake created by Chief Joseph Dam.

The area you generally fish is just below Grand Coulee Dam. My guess is the distanc would be close to 200 miles from Umitilla to Seatons Grove where the best landing if you are fishing Ruffs Woods.

Have been hitting the water pretty hard the past couple of weeks and the Eyes are biting great. Have had 8 fish in the 8 to 15 pound range in two weeks (all released.) Most from the Crow Butte/Boardman area and on down to Alderdale Creek. Can't beat this spring weather!

Released 2 over 30", and kept one 19".

It was an odd day - the fish that hit were all 60' or deeper. I had a real nice one on that took it at 84' and I lost her about half way up. Think she blew the hook out when she imploded.

Trying to be careful about that...

Got one 18.7# in October and couldn't release because I knew she wouldn't make it.

Taking it slow in the deeper water now so C&R will be possible.

The deeper water has been my best bet from morning until mid afternoon.

Sunday, I launched at around 7:30, made one drift above the Blue Bridge then moved down to Indian Island. There were 7 boats working the area. Water got up to 42.4. I used the Columbia Country rig since it worked Friday. At 10:30 in 33’ of water off the Island this 9 pounder nailed it. I was moving at about .9 MPH. Didn’t see any other fish caught.

I’ve been trying to explain the worm threaded CC rig to some guys, here’s what it looks like with the worm….3 walleye and 4 carp so far.

Fished all by myself on Tuesday from 1 PM to 4 PM. 63 degrees no wind with a cloudless sky. Beautiful afternoon. Couple of soft strikes which shredded the worms in 30 feet up at MP 34 to 32. Hit 38 to 40 feet of water at maybe 0.60 to 0.70 MPH and got one carp, one fat perch and one two pound walleye all in the same hour in almost the same spot. WAFG guys came by and checked for a license. Nice dinner for two with a chardonnay garlic fresh dill marinade dabbed with butter at 400 for 20 minutes. We drank what I didn't cook with. Yum.

If you were on I-90 that is Vantage bridge. Wanapum dam is about 3 miles downstream and rock island dam is about 15 miles upstream. There are walleye in all stretches of the Columbia it is a matter of figuring out where and how to fish them. In the early 90's thre were lots of fish in that area, now I don't see many people fishing it and I have not been successful.

This was a week ago at 2:30 PM to 4 PM with two 19 year old teenagers in the boat. Perfect temperature, sun shining, we were drifting slow in 38 to 40 feet of water from MP 32 to MP 30 dragging air-injected worms with green beads and watermelon corkies. Took five minutes to get the first one and we got two in about an hour plus a nice sized small mouth. My daughter's friend had never caught a fish before. Can you tell which one she is?

Post Springer season decided on an early trip on the mighty Umatilla River in search of walleye on . Motored up the Umatilla almost a 1/4 mile before deciding to wet my line transversing back and forth from mouth upstream to my original starting point. WOW! In less than 3 hours, I was on my way back home with a bountiful limit! Caught three (3) over 26" (let all three go), and had a picture limit of 10 (all between 19.5" and 22"). Can't wait to get back.
