I read in this mornings Minneapolis Star Tribune that Lund and Crestliner won't be represented at this years Minneapolis Boat Show. Instead they have elected to do some In-Store Boat Shows in an effort to cut costs in this down economy, I can't blame them. I guess I'll be checking out the new Lunds at the dealership and saving myself a few bucks as well!

You really these dealers are really going to pass the savings on?

This is a really bad idea in my opinion. I've heard most dealers say that they get 50-70% of their yearly boat sales either at the boat show itself or from people who saw their boats at the boat show and then went and searched out their showroom later in the year.

My guess is that Brunswick has reduced sponsorship and the dealers simply can afford the cost themselves.

BVS, I'd say you're right on.

There are two different dealers with Lunds at the Cleveland Boat show, which is going on now. I don't remember seeing a Crestliner, but the numbers of dealers was down compared to the last couple of years shows. I know it's quite pricey to have a display there (I heard between 8-10K, but that was word on the street, so I don't know if it's true). It costs $8 to park, and $12 to get into the show. Water is $3.50 a bottle, and a Pepsi or Coke is $4.50.

By "saving" a few bucks.....I think he meant the parking and admission fees.

You are correct. Besides buying a ticket, it costs $10 to park, $6 for a beer and $4 for a hot dog!

The dealers are putting on a "Parade of Boats". Great idea when it's cold and snowy outside.

Anyway, I had read the costs to be between $20 and 50k to have a spot at the Minneapolis show. Nothing to sneeze at, that's for sure. Fee's were discussed in article referenced in this thread:

Just checked out the "Parade of Boats" at Rapid Sport Marine....... All prices are the same as before their "Parade", and there wasn't another soul in the showroom. Looks like everyone was at the boat show lol. Bad move in my opinion.

They'll all be at the Northwest sports show in March at the exact same place. With sales being down 40% the last 2 years combined I wouldn't spend the money on the same display 2 months apart either.

And listening to me give up all my walleye secrets...priceless. LOL hope to have some good crowds like last year. You coming this weekend or you a one trick pony this year.

I was recently at the St. Paul sportshow and totally disappointed at what I saw there, only 1 dealer had Lunds and they only had a few models to choose from, when I spoke with a dealer he didn't even want to give me a '10 Lund catalog....he says these are expensive, I'm not just giving them away anymore.
I hadn't been to any shows in several years because not much tends to change and trust me I won't be going back anytime soon after seeing as little as I did. I primarily went to research new transom trolling motors, guess what......only 1 dealer had them displayed also, I talked to a rep about a particular model and he quoted me a price that was above their website price, I was told they don't need to deal at the show, people either buy or they don't...guess what.....I didn't buy....
Considering I was an anxious customer with money to burn, the attitudes I experienced from the show was a letdown for me, I will get my new motor soon, but I can't believe I'll be going to any more shows in the near future considering the lack of enthusiasm from the delaers I encountered, maybe I just hit them on a bad day, it was the last day of the show, but in my opinion it's still classless on their part not to treat a perspective customer with respect. just my humble opinion

thats strange cause i thought the dealers didnt have to pay for the catalog as it was the boat company that supplied the dealers?? maybe i am wrong. I was at the boat show in milwaukee last week an ended up buying a lund explorer sport. Anyways they had catalogs every where in all the boats. Not sure if all boat shows are like that but this one seemed decent.

As to the Lund catalog, I'm offered one every year I come in for service at Nelson Marine. I'm sure they know I'm not looking for a new rig, as mine is a 2008. But I love looking at the new models just the same, so it is appreciated.

Seems like "not just giving them away" is a very bad idea in my mind. Especially in this market.
