Buddy has a 1993 Johnson 40 hp. Tilt has quit working, motor runs but lower unit won't move. Unit is stuck in down position and he wants to raise it to try and add fluid. Look like there is a manual release, but it won't budge. Can anyone help?

There should be a screw on the side to release the trim unit. Basically it opens a small valve to allow fluid to bypass the valves and pump. Sounds like low fluid level...lets hope that is all it is.

Thanks Tom, it released, he filled the fluid, and it works fine. Thank you.
