Being a Goalie I give the Minn. goalie Hauser alot of credit. He came up big in the Michigan game and Championship. Thats the best i've seen Minn. Hockey in the awhile. Congratulations to the whole Hockey Team. It should go to Wisconsin next yr!

Should have been DU winning it, but all that pride aside congrats go to UMN. They were always one of the two best teams in the country all season long and they earned it.

The Gophers are losing a lot of talent after this year, and I think next year will be a rebuilding year unless they have a heck of a recruiting class. Wrestling, on the other hand, has most of their national championship team returning and should be on their way to a "threepeat."
Considering all the stuff the ref was letting the Gophers get away with in the OT, he should have never called the penalty and given the hometowners a power play in OT. Was he from Minnesota? It was definitely a tripping penalty, but one of the worst calls I've ever seen. If you're gonna let 'em play, then let both sides play. It was OK for the Gopher goalie to trip people as they skated by in the OT.

If the ref had called all the penalties on Maine that he could have, they wouldn't have had anyone on the ice. Maine was taking cheap shots at the Gopher goalie all night. I think he exhibited more discretion than a lot of others would have done in similar circumstances.
A tainted victory at best - what a call. I was dissapointed as it ruined an excellent hockey game. Although it did take a North Dakotan - Putolny - to win it for all you "Minnesotans"!! The Sioux are going to be tough to beat next year - enjoy your assisted victory while you can!

Hey Putz,
If it weren't for Minnesota you wouldn't have enough players to field a team.
Wow - a real touchy subject. Anyone with an open mind would agree that the victory was tainted. Yes it was a trip, yes Hauser had a couple of questionable calls, yet it is overtime - come on! It didn't matter to me who won, it was a great game, just a bummer to see it end on a questionable power play. Let the players decide the game!

Penalties are called in OT when it is very obvious. This particular tripping penalty had potential to cause injury! The player who drew the penalty was skating WOT and could have been seriously injured by that leg to leg trip. I don't agree with some of the Gopher goalies actions either but, In OT, the penalties need to be a little more obvious to get called. Anyone who feels they need to take away something from team's victory (such as the U of M) or anyone else for that matter, is acting childish in my opinion!

What happens with overtime is the whistle goes away. Its true, refs are affraid to swing the game with a call, decide the outcome with a penalty thats going both ways that they don't see both ways. The only way you'll get a penalty called in OT is if its obvious and impedes the play possibly preventing a game altering play or an injurry could have resulted. Refs don't want to win games or loose games for a team, and that goes doubly for a championship. What it sounds like is the refs decided to call only the blatant and game altering offenses and let teh players decide it. I didn't see the game but I ref and play, and out of all the finals and championships I have been a part of its normally the case. If in the first they let you play its only going to get more 'lax, either they start tight and call everythign or they call practically nothing. Thats how it is.
