What do you guys know about Tuffy? They offer a boat that seems to be a fairly decent crossover Bass/Walleye Platform. I mostly fish MO lakes but would occasionaly like to hit some bigger water up north.

I like Tuffy's, I know of a few guides from the NW Angle on LOTW that use Tuffy's for walleye/muskie. Their boats are generally geared towards the muskie crowd, but they offer pretty good storage options and most models would work well for walleye. They have, again for most of their models, a narrower beam which makes them a quick boat. Shallow draft, pretty good for rough water, but comparable Rangers usually have them in that category. One thing to remember is that they tend to not hold their value as well as a Ranger or Lund. If you plan on keeping this boat for awhile, no big deal, but if you plan on selling in a few years it's one more thing to consider.

Cheers,

FF

Which model are you looking at? The X-190 has interested me a little bit. Not sure I would pay that much, but I've heard it's a decent boat.

Yes X190 is the boat that I am interested in. I will buy used and will keep it for a while so resale is not really as important as finding the right boat for my purposes. I am primarily interested in build quality. I like the Yar Craft TFX as well.

The x190 is an excellent boat, it is not as deep as the Deep V models but allot deeper than a bass boat, it basic idea was to give muskie fisherman a platform that they can use on big waters like Millelacs and smaller bodies fo water. As far as resale remember you dont pay for a Tuffy up front as a Ranger, they come nicely equiped, allot bang for the buck. they run well with a 150 and fly with a 200, and you can put a kicker on one.

I have had my 1890 for almosr 4 years, no gel coat cracks, solid as the day I bought it. They are dry and smooth.

If you want shoot me an email at khpol at frontiernet dot net

Thanks moreyes, I am a little confused, what is the difference between the ESOX and the OPREY? They really need to update the web site. They could have so much more info.

The differnce is the back deck extension, the Esox has a removable back deck, so it can be used as a bigger casting deck.

They are launching a new website soon

I have a link to a site with neat video on the layout, but I cant post it here

Go to the forums and down near the bottom of the page you'll see a forum for Tuffy.....Go to the 2nd page and you'll see where I asked about Tuffy boats....There is some great pictures of the X190.....Looks like Tuffy uses the same layout up front on most of their boats.....When you get done looking around there go into the Lund Forum and check out the 2010 Predator boat.....**** nice boat for aluminum.....

Tuffy looks like a good boat for the money considering what several other brands costs.......Hopefully later this spring or early summer my wife and I can take a road trip north to look at these boats....

I like the X190 myself.......On the site I gave you there is several darn nice ones for sale.......

Good luck in your search.....

I wouldn't buy one just because of their name! TUFFY? your telling me they couldn't come up with a better name than that? I laugh everytime I see one and think to myself wow how dumb of name that is! Just my opinion!

The X190 was designed to be a multi-specie platform that will fish rivers, big water, and small water for muskies, walleyes, or bass. It's not a 2060, but she handles the big water very well; the boat will handle 3' seas just fine, but isn't designed or intended as an 'every day' Lake Erie rig.

The rod locker accepts 14 rods to 9'. Livewell is 52". Lots of storage, and the Esox Deep V rear deck module adds huge rear gull wing storage as well. A Merc Opti 200 will sling her along in the low to mid 60's depending on load. A 150 will do 52 to 54 full load GPS and a 115 in the mid 40's. The tiller runs 40 to 42 full load GPS with a 90 Opti. The X190 is a 19 footer with a 90" beam and is offered in a tiller, single console, and dual console.

Tuffy has been building boats in Lake Mills, Wisconsin for over 30 years, and is a division of Fiberdome, Inc.

If you go to www.tuffyboats.com you will find a LINKS section. There you will find the link to the website that has the Tuffy Boats forum.

That said, I'm not sure why there is always such an issue here with helping out a fellow angler if it happens to mention another website.

As for the name Tuffy? Seriously? You would base a major purchase decision on the name?

I like the 190 as well. The only possible concern I see would be the beam... but again...I say possible concern. Seems a little narrow to me for that size boat. Otherwise, I like what I see. Tuffy has a very decent reputation and to be honest, I cannot remember ever hearing any Tuffy bashing from anyone. Good, solid boats.
