Picked up my chocolate lab this afternoon.......she is definitly my new best friend!!! Any tips/tricks from you "pros" on housetraining, or anything else that I need to know??
Thanks!
Pictures please!!!!!! Congrats on your new best friend!
Take her out 20 minutes after every feeding, so she gets used to where she is supposed to go to the bathroom.
Be VERY attentive at all times, or she will get into mischief and learn bad habits, like chewing on stuff she's not supposed to, or going to the bathroom without you knowing it until you step in it...lol.
Start collecting Kong chew toys now. The more the better. If she has a plethera of chew toys the better off your furniture will be.
Do not give her any toys that she can chew apart. You don't want to find those pieces going through her system.
When you see her squat to pee in the house...tell her, "No", and pick her up and take her outside....when she does her duty outside...praise her with excitement and love.
Some dogs take longer to potty train than others.
My yellow lab took only one day, but my black took a few weeks to figure it out.
It's never too early to start training the basic commands like, sit, stay, come....just make the sessions shorter while she is still just a baby. As she gets older, you can lengthen the sessions.
Get a good training book and read it. :)

As mentioned the regular trips outside and your best friend for housebreaking, the portable kennel or crate whatever you choose to call it.

This is what worked for me with my dogs. The pups don't like to lay in their own waste so they tend to learn quite quickly. I have also found that if you start your training your pup rather quickly making it all a game or fun for the pup they learn very quick. Just a few minutes at a time with pure praise they love it.Congrats on your new family member! Mike
