What are your thoughts on the St. Croix Pro Glass Crank-Bait Rods. Thinking about buying the GC70M for Cranks and Spinner Baits using FireLine 10 or 14 lb. test. Would this rod also work for bottom bouncers?
Thanks
Rick

DONT BUY IT!!!! That was the first St.Croix i purchased. Got 5 total and would never ever ever ever buy a GLASS ROD. The more you troll, or crank the rod stays bent. If you want a casting rod, go with the Avid MH, or Premier MH. If you might be trolling get 7'6" you will be much happier, and you will get longer cast!!!! Good Luck. If you are going to purchase a reel, Get a Stradic(Shimano) or Calcutta!

I own the 7' glass rods and use them for long-lining fireline and running 3-ways & bottom bouncers. They are excellant for these uses. I don't cast superline often so my experience casting these rods is limited. There are some obvious drawbacks to using graphite to run superlines due to the lines lack of stretch and the reaction of graphite when under load. I'm a real proponent of using fiberglass when using crankbaits with no-stretch superlines. Good Luck.

I have the 70M and the telescoping 8 foot something rods from St. Croix. I love them for pulling cranks and heavier bottom bouncers on boards. I've never had a problem with the glass rods and memory. If you are looking for bottom bouncing or live bait rig rods, then I would look at the PCM70 from St.Croix or the Loomis Bottom bouncing rod 813 I think it is...very nice choices. the Croix is a stiffer rod and better for the bouncers...the loomis is an excellant Lindy/live rig...
Oh, and I use nothing but Fireline on them!

Tight lines.

The rod you describe is popular on Erie for guys running big mast & ski planar boards. I have 10 of them and have been happy with them for trolling cranks and size 20 or 30 jet divers off the big boards. I run braided line for all my trolling.
Good Luck,
Steve

Rickk,

The St. Croix GC70M are great!

I have used them for all the same applications as others mention, trolling w/and w/o boards, bottom bouncers, three way, casting, and I run 14/6 fire or 10/2. They are a great value and seem to be very durable (slammed a few in the rod locker, no problems). For lots of trolling with boards I do prefer the GT80M, but when I have all four 80's in and there are enough people I don't hesitate to run the GC70's for the extra lines.

I have 6 of the GC70M and use them all the time for trolling. It's just my preference to use the 7ft so I guess what ever your comfortable with for length will work for you. The only time that my glass rod stays bent is if it has a fish on it...:-) Never heard of that before.

Thanks for the advice Guy's I already ordered 4 of the GT80M Trolling Rods along with 4 SG27LCW's. I was looking at these 7 footers to use with my ABU TP5600C casting reels. Wanted something I could cast cranks, and drag some bottom bouncers. Didn't want to go with to expensive of a rod. After buying 4 Rods, 4 Reels, 2 Sets of Off Shore Boards with TT Flags, Snap Weights and all the neat little lures to drag through the water I just about used up all my Toy Money for the next few years. See, this is what happens when your in Kosovo for six months working 7 12hr days with nothing else to do but cruise the WC site and think about fishing. Talk about severe Cabin Fever

Thanks
Rick
