I have been asked a buddy of mine if he could use my dog as a stud. But them I was told that it will cause harm to your dog if you don't continue to use him for that. They said it causes some kind of anal problems. Does anybody know if this is true? I was cosidering getting him fixed but if he could breed and not be harmed by it, then I would maybe re-consider.

My Lab was used as a stud 3 times and he is 12 years old and very healthy and no health problems. I am sure if I asked him if he was up to another date with a female he might consider it. LOL

a friend of mine has a minuature pinscher that has to have his anal glands cleaned periodically and he has never been used as a stud since he was neutered at about 10 months of age. In his case this is not due to any breeding causes.

WOW.....some of the strangest things are said by people who don't have a clue, but still want to sound smart.
I have bred Springers for years. Anal problems are inherent in certain breeds, check with your vet, a 2 minute phone call will answer your questions.

Steve,
This guy was a google link spammer, and nothing more. I doubt very much that he had a serious question. It was just a post to allow him to post a google link in his signature.

When it was removed, he came back to add it again. When it was removed again and he was issued a warning, he never came back (at least not under that name). So, that tells me his only reason for being here was to spam us....nothing more.

FWIW...

When buying pups and we can look at the full litter at once to see which are aggressive and which are submissive. Quite often overly aggressive females will settle down after their first litter. Works with dogs and women in most cases. :)

Steve, I have raised Springers for over 30 years now and have never had any problems with my males having any anal problems. The only downfall when breeding Springers is that after having pups the females are very prone to developing breast cancer. Sadly I have lost four beautiful faithful girls to this dreaded disease. LDJ
