Just mounted eight rod holders in my boat to go trolling and to my dismay, I find that the holders are loose in the mounts. There is probably 1/4" of play. Did I get a bad bunch or are they all like this. I just purchased them from Reed's as of the first of the year. Thank-you

I would do a search for other posts relating to this subject. I do remember hearing others talking about problems with fit with the Ram Rod holders.

My Ram Rod holders fit real loose also. I contacted the company and they weren't offering to do anything about it, pretty much just live with it was the responce I got from them. I do like them in a way. I won them off a different web site. I don't think I would personally ever buy them.

I just mounted 10 bases and eight holders about a month ago. Fished 8 times with them and theyre tight. No problems here.Actually like them better than the the old style rams.

I noticed Cabela's info says they have the "new redesigned" RAM units. So looks like RAM fixed that problem. Guess Reeds had the old models left in stock and thats what was shipped to you. Just bad luck of the draw. Bummer. I am looking at those myself, but will try to make sure they are the newer version.

I just got 4 of the new Ram's from Cabela's. They where all tight. I have read the post on here and that was the first thing I checked...lol. Because if they where not tight....they where going back!!. These looked really good and I think that they are going to work perfect. I would take yours back and order the new ones from Cabela's.

Guys, after using them a time or two, let me know if you think they twist too much in the base... I have 4 Ram Rod 2000's I purchased last year that were supposively the updated ones. They twist a bit, not excessive but it bothers me.

Hooky, I won two Ram 2000 holders from a drawing on WC. They did not come with the rail mounts so initially stuck them in my existing "Fishon Rail Mounts" In the Fish On Mounts they had allot of slop so last year (2001) purchased Ram Rail Mounts. In my opinion, the 2000 holders fit really well in the Ram 2001 rail mounts. Personally I like the ease at which one can secure and remove your rods in the Ram holders. Sounds like the 2001 Ram mounts fit far more secure than earlier style Ram bases.
If you just purchased them - my guess is that you got stock left over from last year.
Take them back and get your money back.
If the dealer doesn't have new stock and offer to replace them; go elsewhere and pick up the new model.
The new model has been fixed and will be fine.
It will be worth the effort.
You will have to remove the bases - that is where the tightning has occurred.
Take care

Just give them a call! they will replace your loose ones for the tight ones! They were made this way! Now they are making them all tight!Phone: (206) 763-8361 I think I talked to Jeff!
I mounted 12 flush mounts to my targa 18 last year and they
are nice and tight. I haven't had any problems at all. I think
you just got some old stock.
Good Luck , TAD.
