I think that the Lund 1825 Explorer SS is getting the nod as far as my next rig. The Raptor is still in the running but that Lund really caught my eye. My question to the current owners of the Explorer: What did you own before you purchased this boat? Give me your impressions of the strength and durability in the construction.
I know much has been written that the Explorer is not equal to the Pro V's. Comparing the 2 against each other though I don't think that slight difference is going to matter for the type of fishing I do. I won't be on Erie or LOW in big waves.

I bought my 1700 Explorer after owning 4 different Sylvan/Smokercrafts (all tin), and what has impressed me most is the "attention to detail". Rigging tubes are where they need to be, stainless screws with nylocks whever reachable (instead of just self-tappers), little things like that.

Rude Trooper,
I do not have an explorer but I do have a 1825 Proguide which I believe is the same hull as the explorer..... someone correct me if I am wrong. I also had a 1725 Proguide, Lund Angler II, Lund 16 Rebel, Alumacraft Trophy. I kept coming back to the finished details of the Lund boat compared to others. I have never had a problem with any of the boats I have owned. I like the layout and as HRG says "the attention to detail" with the Lund Boats. IMHO.
PS: I have had all my boats out in very rough water in N. MN and never had a problem. Have to tighten a few screws after a few days of rough water but the boats can take what ever you can.

Hi I ran a 1993 16ft lund angler tiller for 13yrs with a 40hp and a 50hp. I now run a 2005 17ft explorer with a 75 yam tiller. SOLID AND STABLE lots of room.

Had an 1750 Tyee, 1800 Fisherman and now a 2010 Explorer Sport. Best Lund I have owned, very similar in ride to a 2025 pro-v,( my partner has one)but with twice the storage. The biggest hurdle for me was the black motor, I have always owned OMC products and loved them but so far I do really like my 175 Verado but I only have 13 hours on it so we shall see....

Rude, I have the 1825 Explorer Sport. Prior lund boats were 1660 pro v, 14 Pike Rebel and 14 lund generic. From a construction standpoint, the pro v is built better. On the water, I don't notice too much of a difference. I think that the pro v's may hold up longer, especially if you fish big water a lot. But that's not to say the 1825 is not solid, its a great boat.
The 1825 interior layout is the best I've ever had. It was also my first console and that has worked out great with the family. Smooth comfortable ride and lots of room.
Good luck with your decision.

I had the following before my Explorer Sport....* Most recent then going back:
Lund 2025 ProV IFS (Several) , Lund 1900 ProV IFS (2), Lund 1900 LE, Lund, 1800 ProV IFS, Lund 2025 ProV LE, Lund 1890 ProV SE, Lund Predator, Alumacraft Competitor, Alumacraft Backtroller 17, Lund Pike DLX.
Strength, durabilty, and workmanship are excellent. Explorers have been around quite a few years.
Fishing storage and other storage is unsurpassed.
Supremely well thought out and laid out by a Lund Engineer, whom I am proud to call a friend, and....who passionately fish walleyes, himself.
This is my favorite boat that I ever owned.
(2010 Explorer Sport w/ 200 Verado)...and I love Verado!

I personal don't like how the storage compartments come out on to the floor so much in the explorer. I have a Pro Angler and it has the wide gunnels like a tournament series boat. All of the storage is in the side walls. Go to Lund's web site and look at the floor plans to a TYEE, Tournament Series, Mr. Pike and see what I mean. It feels like there is more floor space to move around.
As far as handling big water the 1825 has the same IPS2 hull. It will handle as much water as you want to comfortable fish. Just use the head for more than a hat rack.

I have a 1675 explorer and it is an awesome boat. My next boat will be a 1825 or 2010 explorer.

forgot to mention that the sport trak system in the lund is a very nice feature can mount rod holders or anything else you could fit on those things, plus the ability to move them around in the boat is pretty slick

I am looking at the Tournament Pro - V 1925 vs Explorer Sport 1825. I see the HUGE price difference in the 2 boats. They both have the IPS 2 hull. The layouts are similar but the Pro-V has larger gunwales. They both come with the "walk thru" windsheild, which I like. Can anyone help me identify the major differences?
I fish large lakes and am looking for an aluminum boat that won't "break the bank". I love the way the 1925 Pro-V is set up but I'm not sure if it's worth $55K?
Let me know what you Walleye Fisherman think between the 2 boats.
Much appreciated & Good fishin to all!!!!

I'm pretty sure I read that the Crestliner plant was closed, and equipment moved to Lund plant. I don't know what that means for future Crestliner boats.

I am on my second 1800 explorer now and before that I had a 1825 Lund tyee, old deep 19' Crestliner and a 16' lund. Out of them all, the explorer is the best fishing boat I have ever owned and everyone that comes with me always envys my boat. Plenty of room, like the floor layout and the stepped down gunnel. Before I bought my second explorer I was considering getting a ProV for higher engine capacity but didn't like how wide the gunnels are that seems to take up room all the way around and I like having that stepped down shelf along the sides to set my tackle and etc on and is roomier too. Plus the sport track is wicked. When funds allow, my next boat will be a 2010 Explorer Sport with a F200.
