I feel my carpet on my bunks is getting worn and in need of replacement fairly soon. I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on quality of carpet. I realize you would want a marine grade carpet but is there ant difference between standard marine carpet and carpet designed for bunks? Also would the carpet be glued and stapled on or just stapled on? If you use glue, what type? I would assume you would use stainless staples. Thanks for any help.

MIKE, I just replaced the carpet on my trail star trailer with a good grade of outdoor carpet that i picked up at Menards here in Wisconsin.
I did not use any glue just staples and a few nails, rolled the sides over 1 at a time, stapled them then cut and folded the end over. I think they turned out as well as when the trailer was new. The cost of all materials was under $25. Not a bad way to go and i believve they will last several years. hope this help ya.

Hi Tex
Thanks for the response. Just one more question.....did you use stainless staples?
Thanks again

Hey Mike, no i did not use stainless.I have a Cfaftman forward stapler and used 9/16" staples that i bought at Sears and 3/4" roofing nails.I did replace my boards that were 9 years old and the staples in them were rusty but seemed to be in good shape. good luck.

mike...did the same this summer so i'm not sure if what i did will hold up...replaced boards and used menards indoor/outdoor....regular staples...no glue...a guy who works at the local marina thought i was making a mistake not buying marine indoor/outdoor carpet...said it would hold up better....i did the cheapy way anyways and don't know if i will regret it...steve...my point is that the marina guy thought i should use marine grade...

Did mine 3-4 years ago. Used green treated lumber (be a little choosy) , rounded over corners and ends, installed new bolts (recessed), used spray adhesive (3M #77), carpet from Boat/US, and Ceiltile (9/16") staples. Seems just fine.
