What is the best rod length for using suicks? What are other guys using out there? I would like a shorter rod when working them, but I like to have more length when I have a fish hooked up. I use a 7' St. Croix Premier, but would consider going to 6'6".
What do you guys think?

I prefer working a Suick with downward snaps of the rod tip, so a shorter rod is just the ticket. I have one of the original Loomis muskie series rods from before they popularity of 8' rods for muskie. At just a little over 6' it is great for working gliders.

yeah, with my 7 footer, when I snap the tip downward I often am hitting the water, which can change the snap somewhat. Unless I get right up on the bow top I would like a shorter rod.
Gonna be looking for a 6' rod, maybe one of the Fenwick Techna's.

Standing up working a stick in my walleye boat 6 1/2' is perfect for me.
If I were in a lower decked bass boat 6' would be the ticket.

yeah, some of it might be that I am a short guy (5'7")

Which brings up a good point, if you snap the rod downward, how long can you go before hitting the water, assuming your fishing out of the same boat usually?
That might be a good guide to go by.
I like longer rods in that 7 foot range, but I sit fairly high off the water in my boat.

Does anybody else work Suicks slow and easy instead of working hard? It works well for me and I use an 8 1/2 foot rod.

For me, when the fish are in that kind of mood, I will switch over to a shallow running Rapala super shad rap om a XH bass flipping stick. You can get them to wiggle seductively while twitching or cranking ever so slowly.

Sometimes, calm shallow water especially, couple twitches, pause, repeat as necessary.

I do work suicks nice and slow quite often actually, then the longer rods are fine. I find that the weighted models are the ones to go to when wanting to work slow. I also like to use the super shad rap when the fish are in the same mood. But with the weighted suick, I can give a nice slow even pull, let it go down into the weeds. Then, I just let it slowly rise back up, just before it comes to the surface I pull it down again, and repeat. This is my absolute go to tactic for big northerns here in northern manitoba.
