In the manual it shows a number of transducer options:
Unknown
Generic 50/200
Generic 83/200
Generic 50
Generic 83
Generic 200
Generic 50/200 1000 watts RMS
Generic 83/200 1000 watts RMS
Generic 50 1000 watts RMS
Generic 83 1000 watts RMS
Generic 200 1000 watts RMS

It looks like there may be more options that would be found by scrolling down the menu, if you were doing this on the unit. Are there more? Are there any that don't being "Generic"?

You should be able to find Lowrance transducers listed. Just check you trans part# to the one on list. I have set both of my HDS's to what trans I am running.

Yes, there are specific transducers listed in the menu, and you should select the right transducer, not the generic option.

The most common transducer with the HDS units is the HST-WSBL - this is the 83/200 skimmer transducer.

If you're still not sure, your transducer cable should have a tag on it near the connector end which says which tranducer it is.

Thanks guys. The more I learn about HDS broadband the better I like it. I'm no expert but I believe there is a technical superiority from a design and engineering point of view. Earlier I had a HDS-5X to play with but when the color went out I sent it back. I never got to fully learn what it could do. I loved the clean screen and interference rejection. I've not seen this kind of performance on any other brand. Tracking my jig on screen was not as good as I like. It would show but when jigging it was kind of spotty instead of staying continuously on screen. Raising the ping speed might have helped with that but like I said I never got to fully explore the unit.

I am impressed with the transducer options available, particularly with the ones made by Airmar. With the 200, 83 and 50 khz options I think every base is covered; whatever angle you want and at 300, 600 or 1kw watts.

I'd like to have a better definition from Lowrance of what they mean by "broadband". Clearly it's not the same definition Airmar uses in connection with electronics and transducers. That's just a curiosity on my part and doesn't take anything away from what they have accomplished.

I'd jump right now for a HDS-8 if there wasn't so much hoopla about service-after-the-sale. For the price of these units I have to hear a different story.

Thanks again.

The HDS units are a marvel to behold for sure. Never stop learning.... Updates always add something new... ;)
