Looking at the Humminbird 798csi and wondering if the screen size is large enough to take advantage of the side imaging and down imaging feature. If not I'll just get the 787c. It comes down to installation room and how much I want to invest in a new unit.
Thanks for any info!

If your viewing will be relatively close-up most of the time, then the 798c will work. When I first starting running 'birds, I had a 797 that I mounted at the kicker. Since I was only a few feet away, I didn't have any trouble making out the detail that I wanted to see. I know a number of people who are very satisfied 797/798 owners.
If you're hoping to be able to pick up details from a distance, you'll need to go to a larger screen. At the end of the past season, I started running an 1197 at the console and could easily see what I needed to see from the transom.

Get the biggest screen you can afford. The pirce difference isn't all that much more going to a 997 from a 798. I have a 797 and wish I would have saved and got the 997. The next unit I get will be the 1197 unless they come out with something even bigger.
My 797 works very well but when the sun is glaring, the boat moving, i'm running a split screen, and I'm trying to catch details, it gets tougher and I believe that the larger screen will help. I have a hard time seeing fish on my unit unless they are schooled up (like crappies) or are bait balls. I hardly ever see walleyes on my SI unit. I know they are there but I don't think I have enough details to see them.

I have to agree with what others have said. Get the biggest screen size you can afford. One other reason to go with one of the larger screens - Humminbird has introduced a number of new features on the bigger units so you don't want to limit future choices. The one that I am most looking forward to...tighter sync between the sonar/gps unit and the bow mount motors - nothing is anounced but its the next progression.

Buy the largest screen you can afford and will still fit your boat. I have gone from a 5" Eagle to a 7" Humminbird and the Humminbird is much easier to see.
