The posts on the walleye rods were very informative. I would appreciate any information on a casting rod. I just bought a 7' Falcon medium action casting rod to go with my new Abu Garcia Eon casting reel. I noticed that more people use a 6'6" spinning rod. Does that make a 7' casting rod too long? I originally thought of getting both rods 7', but now I don't know. Any advice would be appreciated.

7' is great for casting, it's what I use most of the time. For vertical jigging I prefer to use a 6' or 6'6" at the most. I find I've got a better sense of feel with the shorter rod. And have also found that I've got better control as far as the action of the bait aswell. All my rods are med. to med/heavy action.

Wabash,
How do you like the EON reel, I'm in the market for a new bait casting reel, and that's one I'm considering. Any info would be great. Thanks.
Great choice -
In recent years, my favorite rod has become the 7' length rod. As Goldilocks said in our favorite "bed time story" -- it is just right.
Enjoy it - I expect that you will find that it will work very well for many different applications.
That manufacturer makes excellent rods.
Take care

Don't know yet----it's still in the box. I was impressed when I saw it demonstrated at a big sporting goods open house.
