Hey Guys,
A few years back I got a 797c2si. My first decent piece of electronics and I have really appreciated what it does in my hands.........I know it's capable of more though. I have only used the standard tranducer and never tried the side imaging feature that I guess it has. Is it just a matter of buying a quadrabeam transducer and plugging in? Do I have to download anything from the website? Is this in fact the imaging I see reproduced in the mags now? Or since this was an early model with that feature is the image more like a standard down sonar?
It will be a bit before I can afford an upgrade so I would appreciate and advice on this unit to make it as versatile as possible.
Thanks,
Lloyd

Are you sure it has "SI" at the end of the model name?

The 787, now a legacy product, is a 2D sonar-GPS chartplotter combo. It is not a Side Imaging unit.

Might be a 787c2i unit, the "i" indicating and internal GPS antenna? No side imaging though.

Yup!
You guys are right it is a 787c2i. What had me confused is the availability of a quadrabeam transducer that will supposedly give you 180 degrees according the the book. I am not sure but I imagine this would look similar to the returns I get from the regular transducer in a 2D image.
Anyone hav e any experience3 with a quadrabeam transducer and the resulting image?
Thanks,
Lloyd

Humminbird has an exchange program whereby you can upgrade from a dual beam to a quadrabeam transducer after purchase (but not after it's been used). I have two 788Ci, the one on the dash has quadrabeam and I love it, the one on the bow will be going through my trolling motor's U/S, so it won't have quadrabeam, it's still in the box but as soon as my boat comes out of storage it'll be on there.......like next month when I'll be killin' Crappie on Kentucky Lake!!!!
