I have a friend on another forum that is having trouble with his new Lowrance. Lowrance HDS 8 with the LSS-1 side imaging sonar.

The deal on the transducer is not what you are working with. The new LSS (side imaging transducer) is about 6" long and about 1 1/2 " wide. At the bottom of the transom on my Lund I can't find anywhere I can mount the transducer to see both sides of the boat without hitting the lower unit. Plus the side imaging transducer has to be within 1' of the sonar transducer or down imaging won't work. So, I guess on the Lund I will have to sacrifice some distance out the oposite side from the side I mount it on. Can't seem to figure out a way to get around it. Well, guess I could always run with motor trimmed up a few inches.

Anyone have a similar problem and have a solution? Thanks in advance.

I have a Lund 1800 Fisherman that I plan on mounting LSS-1 to this spring. While doing research, I found the same problem as your describing. Most guys are just running SS on one side only. This will allow a complete unobstructed view.

I have a Lund and installed my LSS-1 last week. From what the mounting instructions say from Lowrance, the "structurescan transducer can be mounted just like a skimmer transducer". It does not have to be in the center of the boat, in fact everyone I know that has installed one of these has it off to the side just like a normal skimmer transducer.

Have you tired this yet?

Water is still hard around here, but I am supposed to go fishing on the Wisconsin River in a little over three weeks, so we will see.

I am basing my install on other peoples experience from last year that have similiar boats. In all those cases, both transducers were installed within six inches of each other on either the port or starboard side of the outboard. I called Lowrance again this morning, and was told that they recommend the same for these type of boats. They said if the transducers are say two feet off the centerline of the boat, one would never notice that the difference. After all, how many of us fish from the exact centerline of the boat, it is all based on perception.
