Has anyone had any experience with the Diawa Gold Cup line counters? I've heard that internally, they are the same as the Diawas. Bass Pro has them with a pk telescoping rod for 79.99.

The rod is fine but I have not used the reel. I use the Diawa 27's. They are more pricey but worth it. Look through the archives from this message board-the subject of Line Counter Reels has come up quite a bit.

The BP Gold Cup reels are not Diawas. The frames for BP's are made by the same manufacturer that makes the frames for the Diawas. The gears and all other parts are what each separate company Diawa or Bass Pro makes and assembles into their respective brand. I have only looked at one in store, but I prefer the Diawas. The Gold Cup is not as tight and solid when you turn the handle. And the reel clicks as if the line clicker is turned on when it is not. When you turn it on the clicker is louder. For the not too hardcore serious fisherman the Gold Cup would be most satisfactory, and fit the budget. Of course - my opinion.

I've only used them once, but thay seemed very solid and with the 5.1:1 gear ratio the fish come in quite easy. The rods you get with the combo are very nice...great deal!!
