I know nothing about this lake. I am wondering whether or not to fish the upcoming RCL at Lake Sharpe in South Dakota. What kind of fishing action takes place in early May there? Can you hook into big limits of walleye there or do they have one of those weird slot limits. What pros do you think will poerform well there. do any in particular do well in the Dakotas?
Thanks,
Big C.

Early may means fish all over, also easy too. Traditional local tournament and last pro tournament both won with minnows and spinners in a backwater, Farm Island, that warms quickly. Lots of pros run 40 miles down river looking for that one large fish-one over 18", 3 between 15-18". Hasn't worked. I live 3 blocks from the launch site, good chance tournament will be won by somebody doing something radical-there's lots of relatively unexplored areas on the river system that change constantly.

Don't forget your handline's, RCL allows handline's in their events.

A few pro's to watch for would be Dan Steir & Duane Tenacte on Sharpe. It's a long stretch of the Mo. with a fairly constant water level. The South Dakota state record walleye came out of Sharpe. There have been planes that have crashed in this part of the river that have never been found. Lots of submerged trees in deep water. In May I would fish the back bay areas and points and concentrate on the trees nears these areas. As in all the res's in the Dakotas it's wide open country. You'll enjoy it....

Early May action should be very good. No problem, with good weather to catch a bunch of fish. I would say going through 50 fish a day would be a fair estimate. Pretty much any thing you use: jigs, spinners, lindy rigs,& plugs will catch fish at this time of year on Sharpe. Sharpe has a big population of fish, the problem will be getting anything much over 3 to 4 pounds.
