I will be purchasing new graphs for my boat and am a little confused. I see Cabelas is selling combo packs, for instance they are selling the 788ci and the 778c as a package. I read that there is waypoint sharing, route sharing, etc etc. From what I can see the 778c is not a GPS but is GPS ready, obviously the 788ci is a GPS and it would use its antenna to support the 778c. Now with that said will the 778c actually have a lake map that I can look at? I understand that I will need seperate lake map chips for each unit to get lake contours and things, but will the basemap on the 788ci be on the 778c when they are hooked throught the Interlink? Would there be split screen on the 778c or would you have to switch screens back and forth from sonar to lake map? Can anyone set me straight?

Thanks in advance!

I believe that on the older units which were "gps ready" you could add an antenna and share waypoints, etc. but not have a visible map to look at, only trails and X's marking your waypoints. I'd e-mail Humminbird (cservice@johnsonoutdoors.com) to check to see if the 778C has a map. I have two 788ci's linked together and if you shop around you could beat that $1,250 Cabela's is asking for the 778 and 788 linked together and get two 788 C's, buy the interlink and save a few $.....just my opinion.

The 778 is gps ready. What that means is you can add a gps antenna to it or use the interlink to share waypoints and share gps. The 778 does not have a base map. It will only show you the lat and long lines and you can also create a waypoint with the 778 and share it through the interlink.
