Anyone seen or used the new SHO Yamaha 4 stroke that claims it will beat any 2-stroke?
I would like to see that put to the test somewhere.

The only comparision I've seen is yamaha video. They took the SHO and the standard VMAX, same HP, same boat and put them head to head. The SHO walked away from the VMAX. I think the vid was shot straight, no "smoke/mirrors"...unlike some of the other comparison vids we've seen in the past. Just the fact that they put the SHO up against another yami says something...it wasn't yami VS. Etec or Merc.
The comparison claims they make are quite impressive, judging by the numbers they produce the SHO is outproducing every other motor out there...even their own VMAX. In all the categories they're equal or better results than the 2 strokes...big claims. Even if the results are a little off, the fact that they're right there with a 2 stroke...impressive.

Most of the Yamaha pros on the bass side are running the new SHO. 5 of top 10 finishers of the Bassmaster Classic last month ran it. There may be more info out about the performance of it after the FLW on Table Rock is done this weekend. This new engine may very well be all its press release touts it to be.

I used to own a 1990 Ford Taurus SHO, and the engine was supposed to have been built by Yamaha. Guess they must have resurrected the "SHO" name (Super High Output) for this outboard.

The SHO is a large displacement motor but ony comes in a 20 inch shaft. Most bigger Walleye rigs are 25 inch and the Offshore motor will be your option. I don't know that motor will have the same output as the SHO.

The 'new' Offshore models are same 4.2 blocks as the SHO, and other new features as the SHO, but come in 25 and 30in shafts. The SHO is 20in shaft for the Bassboats. I think there is a marketing gimmick behind the SHO name. You know how those bassheads are, they like to SHO off!

So, nobody has any real test data to prove or disprove Yamaha's claims yet. I have been waiting for boattest or hull truth, but there is no new information yet. I'm not believing it 'till I see it.

Same here,
I am honestly hoping the results are close to true. I went with the Optimax because of the hole shot, speed, and less weight of the Verado. I am sure Mercury is going to juice up the Verado to exceed/match the SHO which will get me to head 4 stroke next time.
If 4 strokes can improve on just 1 or two catagories as far as hole shot and weight then the other pros like noise reduction and variable RPM will be worth more in my opinion.
Although perhaps Mercury will go another direction and make a better Opti so it won't matter.
