I just handled a G Loomis Walleye Series GLX rod at Scheels and oh boy it felt just soo right. I wish I could have the privilege to try it out but the $365 tag made me walk away though it's still tugging at me. How many of you have one? And is it worth it? Tho it does feel way better than the regular walleye series to me. I tried the St Croix Avids too but didn't care much for it. Just personal feel

that is a sweet rod! i'm with ya on dropping that kind of cash on 1 rod...thats alot of crankbaits, jigs, plastic, and well anything. i'm a st croix guy and would love a legend elite but prolly have to wait. just curious what croix rod didnt ya care for? all i know is after fishing with my avids i cant hardly use my older various rods. matter of fact i will take the time to rerig an avid before grabbing another older rod that is all rig'd up. maybe in another couple years i will have everything switched over to croix's. i guess basically at this point i would rather have 2 avids or gl2's over 1 legend elite or glx.

Lund,
As with anything, it is about - what works.
I have a few G Loomis GLX rods and they are generally with me in the boat.
However, I will say that I seldom fish with any of these rods.

Rather, I use my St. Croix SCV rods much more. It just seems that the overall taper and action of these St. Croix rods suit my fishing style better.

Having said that, there instances where the GLX rods shine, and I wouldn't fish with anything else.

As the saying goes - grab the right tool for the right job.

Also, one tool doesn't do all jobs well.

Take care

I used to have a few GLX's. Nice rods but too darn delicate, I have had them break fron just a bouncy ride across the lake. Now I use mainly GL3's and Avids.

I have two. An SJR721 and a HS9000. In both instances I replaced IMX versions of these rods. I enjoy the GLX9000 much more than the IMX version. Light, sensitive, and less whippy (is that a word) than the IMX. On the 721, which I use for vertical jigging, I think I preferred the IMX version. I think the IMX had a bit more "give" that I liked.

As far as breakage, I haven't broken an IMX or a GLX. And I have done some stupid things.

My wife gave me one for my birthday a few years ago.
I only use it for vertical jigging and finess presentation.

IMO You really can feel them bat their eyelashes at a bait ....

My wife got one in a raffle a few years ago, an SJR 720 or 721 can't remember which. It is an awesome rod she doesn't fish much but once she used it she guards it like its one of her kids. Very nice.

This year I am taking her up to Lac Seul so I think it will get a good work out.

The couple times she let me try it, I thought it was very sensitive. It seems to have a little bit more moderate tip on it than some of my rods like my Avid and Tournament Walleye series.

Pricey.... without a doubt.

I fish with the jigging and rigging models of the GLX. With the break away guides these rods are hard to beat. The sensitivity is second to none. This years models offer some other length's and styles that will be part of my collection soon. Life is to short to fish with inferior rodsl

I have a GLX SJ721 spinning rod that is the most sensitive jigging rod that I own. Also, a GLX SJ842 that I use with a light baitcaster for bass. Both are really my go-to rods for anything having to do with finesse.

I have the GLX SJ721 with a Shimano Stradic teamed with 6# Fireline. Used for jigging. You would be amazed at what you can feel down there.

I have 3 IMX and 1 GLX(all 6'6", medium or medium hvy) and 4 St. Croix premiers(all 6'6", medium or medium hvy). I use to do a lot of jigging not so much any longer(river). All have Shimano symetre's on them. I never really felt there was that much of a difference between the Loomis and Croix's, and I did alot of comparrison over the years. I wouldn't spend the difference in my opinion.

For jigging, my opinion is they are the best rod for me. I also have purchased a few GLX longer rods to use but i found something else that worked better for me, but as far as jigging, one sweet rod for sure.

I just handled a G Loomis Walleye Series GLX rod at Scheels and oh boy it felt just soo right. I wish I could have the privilege to try it out but the $365 tag made me walk away though it's still tugging at me. How many of you have one? And is it worth it? You said it yourself "it felt so right". That is a huge key. Look I have 40 -50 rods (GLX, IMX, gl3 gl2; Legend elite, AVID; Techna AV, elite tech, steez, custom, etc). All very ellecent blanks and have their own application for certain things.

If you told me I could only take one rod to fish for the day I would go and handle all the rods and take the one that felt the best in my hand (comfort, balance, etc).

THe GLX's are excellent and yes there is a big difference between that and an IMX. Other companies do make just as good of rods as well.

If I were you I would save my pennies continue to go to stores that have the rods your comparing and have the staff put the reel you'll be using on them and get the feel for the set-up. After you've done this a few times you will have a definite "winner"of a rod in your mind and it will just fell right when you get to the lake.

My wife got me a GLX for xmas a few years back and I love it. A good story came out of me getting it. I was in my office and a fellow worker was talking to me about the GLX when another guy walked in. The second guy heard about the cost of the GLX and said.

"You paid $365 for a fishing Rod?"

I looked at him and replied "You paid $400 for a new Driver for your golf game?"

He looked at me and said "Never thought about it that way"

I have had the privelege in the past few years to start getting into the loomis rods and truly love the feel and light-weight they offer. Definitely pricy but like it has been stated - don't mess around with a rod you are not satisfied with since it is such a big part of fishing! I just picked up 2 of the new 2010 GLX's - 6ft 3in jigging and the new 9000 rigging 7.5ft and can't wait to try them out in the next couple of weeks. The new titanium guides are awesome and I no longer have to worry about messing them up if I'm a bit careless. They reduced the size of the guides on the 9000 and now they are small all the way to the handle. With these light rods I went with the Stradic Ci-4's and man are these light! -before Loomis I ran all Guide Series rods and also love them ...and of course still caught fish, now it's just a bit more exciting.

I have 2 GLX and 1 IMX spinning rods. Great rods and if you break one, of which happens, took it back to Scheels and they sent it in, received a new one and all I paid was shipping.
