I am in the market for a new to me boat.

I owned a Crestliner briefly back in late 70's and have not taken a second look since. Since then I have had three rangers and a lund and needless to say it was a AMF product back then and I was not impressed. Allot of things have change since then.

I have an opportunity on a 2002 17' SuperHawk. 115 Johnson, powerdrive up front, dated electronics and the all the safety equipment plus a shorelander. Price is $10,000

From what I am reading here Crestliner is considered to be a good boat now a days and I am just looking for a warm a fuzzy before I make an offer.

What do you think the rig is worth? $7500?
How comfortable are you with the boat in Lake Huron, Erie and St Clair? (Most fishing will be in Lake St Clair and the Detroit and St Clair rivers. I'll pick the days for Erie and Huron.)
Could you be happy going from the lund and rangers into the crestliner?

Thanks a bunch

In a word, NO. I owned tin my whole life till I got this Ranger. I can't imagine buying any tin again after seeing the light. Particularly for St Clair and Eries western basin, two of the choppiest waters in the country due to their size and depth.

I have the 2003 Crestliner brochure and the SuperHawk is listed with these stats:

length 17' 7"
Beam 90 "
Weight 1135#
Max hp 125

Given the weight, it probably has 12 deg degrees, although deadrise isn't listed in the brochure. If so, the boat is probably fast, but not a real smooth ride.

You said 115hp Johnson. I assume that is the 4 stroke. That is an excellent engine and is still in production by Suzuki. I doubt that you could fine a good used one less than $5k.

That rig when new probably sold for about $20k. A comparable rig new today probably would cost $25k.

If the boat is in good shape, it is probably as good as new.

If both the boat and engine are in good shape, I would say $10k is a good deal.

They last maybe a week. I sold my 2000 cresty superhawk with 115hp mercury 2 stroke. Took me longer than i thought it would but it was right in winter with snow flying. Good boat cant really say anything bad about it ok the red carpet i disliked. There are some features i like in boat though more deep V design for waves. You find one for $5k let me know!

I own an 05 17' Crestliner Serenity with a 140 4S Johnson. This boat has been excellent for myself and my family. I bought it used in the fall of 2008 and paid (loaded with trolling motor, finders, covers etc) $13,500 for it. It was in mint condition and only had 17 hours on it. This was a steal of a deal that I could not pass on. I think what your looking at would be a very nice boat a reasonable price. My Crestliner has been a great boat to fish out of and the ride is very dry and smooth. I have no complaints what so ever.
Good luck.

2008 1860. Cost less than my buddies '08 Lund we both have 4 stroke 150's, and mines faster and better equipped, much less the ride quality. He is livid.:D

I had a 2000 Sportfish which is pretty much the same boat. Used it Erie for 8 years. The quality of the boat was fine

the ride? I would rate it OK for Erie. Not great, always felt safe in it, but in anything over a few ft waves, I had to slow down or get beat to death. I even put Glyde Rydes in it to help out my back

I would rate the ride as just ok....

St Clair and the river would be just fine though. I used mine all the time on the river with no problems
