You have to check out the photo of John Hertensteiner holding a hog Detroit River walleye at the recent RCL on the FLWoutdoor.com website. He is decked out in his Walleye Central gear. The coverage of the walleye fishing is excellent. The future looks great for tournament walleye fishing and walleye fishing overall as a sport. Let's keep pushing for as much respect as the bass guys get.

I don't know exactly what you mean by "respect", but I have as much respect for a walleye angler as I do for any other angler. However, walleye will never get the participation or the publicity that bass fishing does.
This is due to two reasons as I see it: 1) Bass is the most widely-distributed game fish in the country, being in 49 states and in so many bodies of water in each state and 2) Bass, especially largemouth, can be found in shallow water, which is where so many fishermen prefer to fish.
So, I'm afraid that other types of fishing will have to take a back seat to bass as to overall visibility.

Two things:
1) Good to see the site getting some free press, more users means more informationand we all benefit from that.
2) Bass Pros get more respect because more people fish for bass because its more common. Personally I think walleye are much harder to catch consistently then bass and location dependent trout, yes slimers, can be even harder to catch then walleyes (don't believe me try fly fishing off the hatch on gold medal waters in the middle of the day). Those idealized by the masses will always be more popular.

My post was intended to poiunt out the increased coverage walleye fishing is now receiving from one of the biggest names in sport/tournament fishing. As far as the respect coment, I was refering to respect from sponsors etc. I guess I need to be more specific.
Of course walleye fishing cannot gain the foothold that bass fishing has, since they are predominantly an upper Midwest species, lower Canada and are located in some upper prairie and northwest waters.
My message was one of a positive experience brought about by seeing such good coverage provided to one of my favorite sports. It is excellent to see walleye fishing tournaments getting front page treatment along with the bass fishing tournaments that FLW Outdoors produces. They are really giving a boost to the sport. If any of you guys were at the weigh in at the finals in Detroit you would have seen the great numbers of fans willing to deal with the lousy conditions to cheer on their favorites. the buzz from the TV crew was that there were more people there than show up to the FLW finals you see on TV.
RCL is a good thing, like PWT, MWC and the rest.
