We're getting a lot of feedback about the annual run on the Fox and it's in full swing! Weekend weather looks good. Some initial reports indicate a lot of smaller fish.
In the same neighborhood is Lake Winnebago, and we've been asked on this board a short time ago about the new reefs. Well, the latest map should be available very shortly, quite likely by the end of next week. You can get info right here on the WC by clicking the FHS icon on the homepage! Good luck on the water!
Phew! After the Detroit oil spill story, I thought this was going to be another Cuyahoga River! Don't scare me like that.

Mike: I am still a bit confused about the Fishing Hot Spot Maps. I almost ready to purchase a Garmin 162. I intend to select the Wisconsin map portion, which includes Lake Winnebago.
How do I go about getting the up-grade? I assume that there is a cable to connect to a computer. Are the up-grades free?
Thanks.

Please remember, the maps for your GPS are ours in name only...it's a Garmin product. They license the data from us, so I cannot speak to the upgrades. Obviously, if they release their product in January and we (like today with a new Winnebago) release new data in April, you won't see an upgrade until later.
I would direct your question directly to Garmin in this case.

The launch is open and docks went in today down at Voyeuger. Lots of fish being caught but the majority are small 14-19" fish. Fishing from shore is doing as well as the we are in the boats. Elbow to elbow on shore and it will be elbow to elbow on boats this weekend. Good luck!

Fished the Fox yesterday early evening and again today from 6:00AM until 3:30PM. Got wet with last evening's rain and wind burnt with todays gusts! The two of us boated 88 eyes for both days. All but four were under 20". Longest was 27" followed by an unbelievably fat 24" and then a 23" and 21". Five tagged fish included.
Staying vertical with a good feel for the bottom using a 3/8 or 1/2 oz jig tipped with a lake shiner was the key for our boat. Stinger hooks turned out to be a must for us as well. Color didn't matter much. Fish came from just about anywhere but of coarse upstream was a bit better this time around.
I was impressed with the overall courtesy of most people, especially for a weekend. Of coarse there is always an exception and the moron of the day today was driving a white Champion boat. The idiot wanted to prove that he could go 50MPH in between two boats, ours included, that were no more than 50 feet apart. Real class and brains. None-the-less, 99% of the people behaved.
Equally impressive was the maneuvering at the boat landing. With the winds I though for sure there would be some mishaps. During the hour we watched there were several close calls but no collisions.
Good luck everyone and we'll see you there again this Thursday.
