A few questions for you regulars to Lake Erie. Looking at going over for a few days to the Port Clinton area around June 29th. Is this a good time frame or would late August be better? Also where is a good place to stay that would have a kitchen type setup, nothing fancy. Thanks.

Holiday Village Motel is a great place to stay and is a great place for fishing info as well since they also run a charter business.

I know that the military base by Besse Davis has housekeeping cottages for a reasonable rate, it is a distance from Port Clinton, They have places that sleep six adults for $80 a night, includes full kitchen

Nordicron,
The Western Basin produced good numbers of fish for most of the summer last year - although lots of small fish, so late June or August should be fine. I have lodging available in a condo with dockage, fishcleaning facilities, swimming pool, etc about 10 miles West of Port Clinton with a direct access channel to the lake. Last year the best fishing in Late June through August in the Western Basin was out between Middle and West Sister Island. West Sister is an 8 mile run from our dockage, considerable closer than running from Port Clinton.

Sorry I didn't read and answer your question more thoroughly.

That time frame would seem to me, better, for heading further east toward Cleveland or Fairport Harbor. For bigger fish especially.

Good Luck!

Well thanks for the repies so far everyone, but geez I am surprized not more people have offered anything up. With all the people on this site that must travel to Erie surely you must know where the good places to stay are. Its not like I am asking for GPS coords to someones hot spot! So come on and give a guy a bone here.

Nordicron,
If my condo doesn't interest you, check out the links from Dean Clifton's "Denied" webpage. He's got some links to Port Clinton / Catawba lodging options. www.cliftond.com

Also - as SF indicated in his post, if you want BIG fish you are probably better off farther East during the summer, but there were good numbers of fish taken in the Western Basin throughout last summer.

Good Luck,
