Whats with all the Bass Bashing on the other Post? Stupid Fish? I guess I just haven't run into that school of stupid 5 lb Smallmouths yet, (like everyone else).

I would bet at least half the people on this website cut their teeth on Bass? I know i did, growing up in Eastern kansas. Yeah bass shows are largely riduculous, but that is not the bass's fault. As much as I like Walleyes, it is nice to have a Bass show up a couple of times a day and add some excitement. I know if i lived in Tennesee or Kentucky where the big smallies live, I know what I would be targeting!!!

I agree, these are probably the same guys who think there's only 1 boat, there's only 1 rod and reel and so on and so on. I guess they would rather have a walleye on, which essentially is dead weight coming up than testing their line strength on a nice smallie. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

Neal? You smoking crack again? I thought that the counseling had really done a lot of good? LOL

I fish in my aquarium, so that says alot about how picky I am about what fish I catch. I seem to focus on walleyes mostly, because I am comfortable with the presentation styles that are more common for walleyes such as verticle jigging, rigging, and trolling.

Personally, If I really knew how, I would spend most of my time targeting carp. They get huge! There are lots of them (the one fish that the DOW has done well with)and they aren't pressured.

Wonder what type of boat Carp fisherman prefer?

I know you prefer walleye, so do I. But I also know you like to catch wiper, trout and anything else that pulls hard. Wait till you go to Flaming Gorge someday and see a 40 lb carp swim right under your boat!

Oh by the way, I am down to two viles a day now.

Good thing you live in Aurora. Easily accessable narcotics.

When should I go to Flaming Gorge? I'm thinking August? Or will the fishing just suck?

Sorry but I think the majority of Bass Bashing is the grand attention that the stupid Largemouth bass gets. I agree that smallies are a completely different fish. In fact during many times of the year they have similiar characteristics of walleyes. I enjoy smallie fishing but do feel that the largemouth bass is way overrated.

i,m headin to erie tomorrow for my 1st spring smallie outing, the smallmouth bass is a monster they are brutal and i love em, now on the other hand the largemouth bass i can live without who cares about them give me a smallie any day of the week, what an awsome fish, i can also do without the fishing shows sometimes they are a joke and thats why i own every video that infisherman has out on walleye, if i need the fix i pop in a walleye video and things become right in the world.

bass are number 1', bass fishing has done more to promote fishing than any other specie's. AND THAT A FACT'

Here is my opinion on this topic. I started my warm water fishing going after bass (naturally since I lived in south Texas and there are no walleye down there). Moved to CO and nailed the largemouth and smallies pretty easily. Since converting to walleye about 15 years ago, I predominately hunt them. When the eyes are not biting or the bass are big and aggressive, I'll go after them. With a change of a lure and targeting different spots on a lake, I can successfully fish for multi species. More important than hooking eyes exclusively is being able to switch to a different species and outsmart that species. Kinda like Eric, I just want to feel the tug on the line and know that I have successfully outsmarted another species. Now, targeting carp...that is not tops on my list but if I figured out their habits and preferences, they might fill a "fishless" day with some fun. For me it is not about catching a single species but having fun while on the water. If I had to catch fish for food and kept most of what I caught, then it might be a different story.

If you want challenging tournament surroundings, take a cold front with high skies after you've honed in on Largemouth in shallow water. It can be some of the most challenging fishing there is. Better yet, find a lake that gets a lot of pressure and you'll soon find that largemouth are very smart and very savy to presentations. I can tell you, they ain't biting weight forward spinners or harnesses.

Depends what species you want to catch? August would be a good time to vertical jig for Lakers!

Got to expect some of that on a walleye site. I'm sure the bass sites take a few jabs at the walleye guys. Competition is good for both sides.

I'll admit if the walleye aren't biting, I'll catch smallies all day long. Sometimes they are occupying the same areas and I will catch both on the same lures. Bonus for me.

Here ya go again, Al! I got my EYE on you! (pun intended) Now it's weight forward spinners and Harnesses. What do you suggest they use, that won't be rinky dink, in their pursuit of the venerable Walleye.

Please do not think I'm mad. I'm only asking what your preferred style of walleye fishing strategy is. In several postings you show a marked dislike for spinner harnesses, jigs, and weight forward spinners so I'm wondering how you go about catching fish. It might give me a tip since I rarely fish jigs, weight forwards, or harnesses myself.

Now I like walleye, I used to love em, but I met my match when I started surf casting for stripers here on the east coast. Stupid bass they are not. In fact, I think all freshwater fishing is plain old easy compaired to fishing off a rock jetty in the middle of the night, with waves crashing on you and a 40lb fish tring to yank you into his world.. Think Musky fishing with a greater chance of personal injury.

Wanna see true wackos? http://www.surfcasting.com/

Those guys are nutten but shark bait!!

Neal, am I still bringing your "fix" in for the get together? Please let me know how many of these tiny balloons I have to swallow :)

If I wasn't here, I'd be fishn.

I engage in a little bass bashing from time to time for one reason: just for fun. I live about a quarter mile from an excellent large mouth lake. I love to hit the water in the early a.m. when I'm home for the weekend and chase bass. It is fun to watch the water erupt. When I head out to a lake of choice, it is always for walleyes. It is a nice balance for me - Bass at home, Walleyes in cabin country. Walleyes are my favorite thing to fish but variety is the spice of life.

So, I freely admit to a little stump sucker bashing now and then but I'm just having fun. I hope the bass aren't offended.

Sorry I started all of this! Let me clarify. I was talking about stupid Bass Shows. My post did not mention stupid fish.
I just would like outdoor shows to mix it up a bit. That's all.

Good post. Bass fishing is great, as is trout, Musky, deep sea, anything but netting.

Hey. If it puts fish in the boat, I'll try it! Anything short of dynamite is fair game and some days I'm tempted to reach for the big banging stuff.

I thought I'd wait to see what he replied but since he hasn't gotten to it yet, I'll go first. We do several things for our fish. We drift crawlers on floating jigheads, jig with Heavy jigging spoons, and troll crankbaits. For whatever reason, spinner harnesses don't seem to attach enough action in our system. It's pretty muddy most of the time and I think we just can't fight the natural bait population and lack of underwater vision to interest them in the spinners. Even with large over-sized blades, they don't pull weight like the cranks. Jigging spoons are very popular here. Some times at the scales, we find that 80% of the fish are caught this way. YES. 80%! There are a couple of community holes that give up a lot of fish and if you're the lucky dog sitting on them when the fish get there you can put some 7-10 lb.er's in the box. The crawlers seem to work because they are dragged slow enough to stay in the fish zone for a walleye to swim by and find them.
