I was wondering if anyone had plans or know how to make a fish scaler

Zilla,
Buy one from Cabela's -
Take measurements, take it apart, reverse engineer it and when you have all of the details, put it back together and return it to cabela's unused.

Basically, it is pretty simple. A barrel within a tub driven by a motor.

Here is a link for a picture and source for one:

Note: ON the stainless steel inner tub that the holes have been punched into the steel, This results in a sharp protruding edge on the inner side of the barrel which does the actual scaling.
Then, there is simply a shaft running through the center of the barell to rotate the barrel. The shaft is being supported by ball bearings on both ends of the plastic tub in which everything is resting.
Finally, on one end of the plastic tub is an AC gear motor that drives the entire arrangement.

It would be nice to know the rotational speed of the barrel.

You have given me some food for thought, since I have a number of adjustable speed AC gear motors. I wonder, if one could purchase just the center barrel and center shaft from the vendor? This would be the hardest part of the scaler to come up with and have work correctly. I expect that the vendor went through many many different barrel designs before settling on this one.
The rest of the design is simply a plastic tub and a driving motor.

Take care
