I need to know which line is best for trolling. Will be fishing spring browns on Lake Michigan, Fall Kings on Lake Michigan, and Walleyes spring, summer, and fall. Mono or Superline? Also what pound test? Thanks

Fireline or Power Pro. I use 30 lb. Fireline and fish all the same things you listed, I'm in Holland, Mi. It is the same size diameter as 10 lb XT so you can use the precision trolling book to set your lines.

I haven't used fireline or powerpro for Trolling, so I can't speak to it.
I have used Cabela's Rip Cord and I really like it. I think the 40 lb. line is 10 lb. test diameter to reference the Precision Trolling book.

Sloth,
I'd recommend one of the braided lines: PowerPro, Whiplash, or Spiderwire Braid would be my choices.
I use the same reels for Lake Ontario Salmon / Steelhead as I do for Erie Walleyes / Steelhead. I'm using 50 pound test Whiplash that has the diameter of 12 pound mono.
I use it for everything - dipseys, planar boards, downriggers.
Good Luck,
Steve

I here and read a lot about lines on this board and others. Every thing is up to interpetation. I try to base my opinions on the facts and facts only. So for line, I will use 20+ years of experience and a week of conservation with Berkley, Stren and other line companies. My conclusion was to choose P-Line in 15# for walleye, Kings and Steelies. Dipseys I use braided dacron-that is another story. In three years I have had not one lost fish due to P-line and have had many more hook-ups. And, the test goes on-I am still using the same spools of line. I chose P-Lind due to the fluorocarbon coating over copolymer. This was exactly what I wanted for trolling-15% stretch, invisible to the fish and protection from UV rays and elements. Plain mono or co blends have a stretch of about 25% and super braids 7%. I want some give, but enough stretch to be somewhat forgiving so I do not just get a set of lips on my hooks. Matched with a 8.5' rigger rod for trolling the big lakes, common sense and my research says that this is the combination for my boat.
