this may be a realy dumb question, but i was curious, i currently have a lowrance 111hd locator, could i use a hummingbird side imaging unit also? what im asking is if i mount another transducer for hb on oppisite side of boat would the 2 units interfer with one another? or is this something i could do without a problem?? i want to get side imaging, and keep my 111...................

any thoughts or suggestions??

You will get interference as soon as the transducer cones overlap. If both transducers are on the back of your boat you'll most likely get interference in 10 fow or even less.

How about this idea ---- get a HB and use it mainly to display side scan, down scan, and sonar, but not for GPS. Keep your 111 and use it for GPS (turn off the sonar function so you don't get interference). It seems to me that the only downside would be the difficulty in sharing waypoints between the HB and Low units.

It depends on the frequency used by HB. Not sure what it is. You can have a lowrance 2d sonar 50/83/200khz tansducer right next to your lowrance structure scan tranducer which uses 455/800khz without any troubles.

Excellent point, if you're on different frequencies you won't get interference. In my first post I assumed you'd be using 200 kHz in both transducers .....

I have a new lowarance hd with hummingbird paramount never had any problems when I added the lss and used the side scan I had a black line on the right side. But never had any problems using the 2d transducer

I have a bird 585c came with the lund and I added my lms334cIGPS with the two 200 ducers side by side on the transom I get no interference at all and the elec is connected to the same place . I asked the same ? some time back and was told interference would happen and it didnt so I was surprised it works great.

Technically they should interfere. I don't understand how they wouldn't but I have seen the same thing myself. Ive had two 200 khz units, two 83 Khz and two 455 khz that did not interfere; how or why I do not know. There doesn't seem to be any way to predict this except that it is much more likely that two units on the same frequency will interfere than not. I've seen 83 khz interfere with 107 khz but the 107 did not interfere with the 83. I've also seen 120 Khz interfere with 107 and vice versa. Another surprising thing for me was to mount two 200 Khz transducers side by side; one Hbird and one Lowrance. They both went crazy, but changing a filter on the HDS produced a perfectly clean screen with no interference. I couldn't adjust it out of the Hbird. Most of the time I'm in water 60-150 feet deep. It's worse in deep water.

Currently I'm running 107, 400, two 200's, two 83's and two 455's. Everybody that pulls in next to me says they can't see a thing on their electronics. In deep water I get interference on the 200's. The others are okay.

You are lucky. Maybe you ought to go out and buy a lottery ticket.
