You asked for an update on the short box, 8' camper issue. You may have seen in my other post that I have to go another way. However, the reason for this was strictly weight-related. No one I talked to, including a Ford mechanic I trust, told me that I cannot put a 8' camper in a s/b bed. And, I specifically asked. It can be done. There are 2 concerns - the first is weight, which sunk me.
The second is the rear suspension, which may need beefing up (either an extra leaf in the spring, or some sort in "air bags". I guess the overhang can make the front end pretty light. But, if you have a 2500, weight should not be a concern, and you may have the suspension needed already. You may be okay.
Some have said just leave your endgate down, other have said take it off, especially over gravel, where stone dings are probable.
Anyway, if I were you, at a minimum, I'd get a second opinion before ruling the truck camper out.
Take care,
derrek.
