Cometcursor Beware

Recently I downloaded Cometcursor from a link someone on this site provided to check out their avatars and cursors. After that my computer started logging on to the net by itself. I would come home from work to find my screen cluttered up with all kinds of spam. Seems Comet slipped in a spyware program on me. If you want it out, you may be able to remove it by uninstalling Comet, or if that doesn't work I have the address of a free adware removal download. E-mail me at dlentsch@runestone.net.

Sore subject for me. It downloaded on my computer also. The Comet Cursor uninstall program leaves bits and pieces all over your hard drive. I'm not savvy enough to know what they do, but I know I want them out. AdAware found five remnants of this program on my system. Norton Systemworks found a few more (all subsequently removed). I wonder why it's legal for this sort of program to tamper with your property (computer).

I guess that's the price we pay for an unregulated internet.

Without digging up the old post I must raise my hand and say that it was probably mine that referred to comet cursor. I apologize to anyone that had a problem.

I don't seem to have any problems here. I tried emailing you but it did not go through. I may have a problem on my end and not even know it. Is there more to getting rid of this than just deleting it ?

Try going to download.com.com/3000-2094-9643459.html. There is a free Adaware download that will identify the spyware and remove it from your system.

Or just go into your startup list in msconfig and remove anything relating to the program. %90 of the stuff in the startup list isn't needed anyway and by cleaning it up your computer will start working much faster and more efficiently again. If your unsure what you should leave or not just email the list of stuf in your startup group and I will get back to you with what ones to leave in there. My email is chadk66@yahoo.com. Removing the stuff from the list doesn't remove the programs it just stops their ability to be running in the back ground all the time and running everytime you boot your computer. Cleaning it up really helps with systems that lock frequently.

I ran Ad aware and it found 148 items from or of spyware/adbot items!!!

Jeez, I can hardly believe it! It just shows to go ya, big brother is out there!

I have the adaware and it appears to have found several items but I think it is in German..................any tips on how to convert it back ?

Go into the Adaware/Language delete the other languages and bmps for them. Leave the english .ini and .bmp in there. This will keep only the english version.

Thanks for the info!!! I installed and ran adaware and the first scan detected 137 suspicious files. I hope I didn't delete anything I need.
Is there anything that can negatively affect my system by doing this??
When I came back to WC, I would say my speed has more than doubled. I would like more feedback on this 'puter stuff. It's not easy keeping up with all this technology when you live in a pineapple under the sea. Thanks again,

I didn't notice any adverse effects on my system but I too found over 100 items. Lots easier to read in english too !

Howdy,

I ran the ad aware again after surfing the web and found 16 new spyware/adbot things. It is amazing how fast you pick these things up!

I also had it show up in german the second time. But I remembered the proceedure and was able to run the program.

Thanks fore the tip on changing the language back!
