View Full Version : VHF antenna on a tiller?
How do you guys mount your antennas on a tiller? I wanted to mount it on the port side, folding back, but the cable isn't long enough to reach the radio if I mount it there. Anyone ever mount one on the port side folding forward? Does it get in the way there? Can you extend the cable without any problems?
Thanks,

I mount all the VHF antennas on tiller boats on the starboard(right) side behind the drivers seat, folding forward, as far back on the boat as possible i would think mounting it on the port side would be the last place i would want it because it would be in front of the driver seat.
oops yah, you're right, I don't know why I typed port, I meant starboard.
Do you have trouble landing fish when you're trolling with it back there?

That's the location I have -- way back on the starboard side, behind the tiller seat. You don't even know it's back there. As to it getting in the way, I've got a five-foot fiberglass antenna and I can pass the line over the top of it easily when fighting a fish. -- mark

Todd,
Where then, do you have your radio mounted? In the electronics box or out in the open? Also, where do you have your GPS unit and antenna mounted if applicable? I've seen archivd threads speak about frying your GPS antenna when transmitting at 25 watts.
Thanks.
