I looked at a JBI 7' Erie Series Planer Board Rod today. Actually looks like it'd make a good downrigger rod. Looking to use on Lake Erie for walleyes & steelies. Has anyone seen these and do you agree or disagree? Thanks!

The JBI rods are decent rods, as far as using them for what you want they should do ok for you, they arent quite the best rod for downriggers, but they will work. they will work well for the steelies, but just remember to keep the drag light for them too. good luck and good fishin.

Den, Is there another downrigger rod you like better? I have a couple Shimano TDR's. They are 8'6", I think. Medium action. I want to go with a 7' or so. I like the JBI dipsey rods. Bought 2 last season. Thanx

JBI makes a downrigger rod! I use them on Erie and Ontario for Kings. Very nice rods. I have the 7' planner board rods, they do have a soft tip if your planing on useing in line boards you might try the JBI dipsy rods as your planner board rods. I think JBI makes a 7' dipsy rod, perfect for plannerboards too.

I mate for a Capt on Erie who uses nothing but JBI, All his plannerboard and dipsy rods are JBI dipsy rods. He also uses the JBI downrigger rods on his downriggers.

JBI makes a 7 foot rod as you saw, also Shimano makes a 7 foot rod, and so does Okuma. any of them will work, the jbi and the shimano are pretty close to the same price, and the okuma is less cost. the bottom line is to compare all of them and get the ones that you like best. if you have any questions give me a call at 1-888-855-9032, i do have all 3 brands in stock right now. good luck and good fishin.
