I just tried my new Lowerance X15 out. When I first turned it on, an alarm sounded and it displayed a message "GPS Moduale not responding". I then went ahead and tried to initialize it - 10 min - nothing happened. I also tried "auto search" - 10 min- nothing. I checked the connections. Still every time I turn the unit on I get this message and the unit fails to aquire a position fix. Am I doing something wrong? Could my GPS moduale be defective? Or am I just being stupid? Any help will be appreciated.

Module not responding means just that. Check the smaller center wire connector on the back of the x-15. Then check the connection at the module. If that doesn't do anything it may be that the cable to the module was damaged during installation.

The Lund I used at the recent Detroit RCL had one of these units installed along with my Genetron. I had the same problem. After doing everything imaginable, including replacing the module itself, and the whole unit after that, I found that the main battery was not fully charged and that unit needs a full charge to make the module respond. With a red face, I charged the battery and it worked!
Maybe you have other problems but....put a charger on the battery and watch what MIGHT happen.

Easy fix, the NMEA wires that are part of the power cable cannot be touching each other. Either keep them separated or cut the ends of until you need them later.

Thanks guys for the help!! I knew if I posted this problem on Walleye Central - someone would solve it. My MNEA wires were touching - I taped them up and it and it's working perfectly.

Thanks Again

Hey Road Kill,

I'm always proud to answer a Genetron question.

I've used one for 8 years. I even use one for my bow unit too. I simply can't stand to "wonder" what I am missing if I'm not watching my Genetron screen.
Feel free to ask any detailed questions.
Good luck!
