Went out with a charter this weekend. Second time out with this guy. All was good as we had a fish within 5 minutes. We were drifting the reefs with everyone else. We had about 3 hours left and the boat broke down. This is the second consecutive time we have been on the boat and it broke. The idiot forgot to change out his batteries. Naturally we were mad, partially due to him being an idiot, partially because it took someone 1.5 hours to bring us batteries. So naturally we thought he was going to give us extra time out on the water. He called the trip at the normal time. When we got back to main land i went in and wanted to talk to owner, he wasnt there. We expected a refund of some sort. Half price on the next trip, but dont really want to go back out with them. I just talked to them and he told me that there was nothing he could do for us, come back up and he would give us another trip, and extend by an hour. We fell 5 fish short of our limit because of this. Also had a couple of rookies that will probably never hit the Big Lake again. How would my fellow walleye fishermen handle this sittuation?

Fishnerie,

Sorry for your bad experience. Believe me most of the charters up here do not treat their customers that way. It gives all of us a black eye. In the past 23 years of chartering I have seen alot of these guys come and go. Hope you try it again. This time with a decent charter service.

I have to agree with Denny, most guys try to be fair and bend over backwards to do so, but you know how it is - every group has its jerks and you got one of them. Please don't judge all by one's actions. Boat problems do happen, but it shouldn't be your loss. Don't miss out on Erie because of one jerk.

Any of the above posters would do you a fine job, as would my brother Rich Stedke on Shifless III. Go with a real captain, and will be a much more favorable experience. Good luck.

I have tried several charters over the years but have had my best experiences with Rich Laird on Rags to Riches Charters. When you drive over 5 hours from Chicago, you expect someone who is reliable and promises a good time. It also helps that he consistently puts you on fish! I attached his website link below.
