I am going on a Holland America Alaskan cruise in mid May and wondered if anyone out there has made this trip. I was wondering if it would be worth taking a pack rod & reel with me to do a little shore casting from one of our ports of call. I have already booked a ocean charter but wondered if anyone knows of a place to do a little fishing on my own while the wife shops. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Oh, the ports of call are Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan. Thanks!

Story of my life.. I missed out on spending a whole summer in Alaska because I couldn't raise $100.(in '73)
The next best thing for me has been Alaska Magazine. Here is the link to their site, of particular intrest look at the Milepost and Destination Alaska link. Hope this helps find you something.
My friend fished 5 days for halibut last year. Fish averaging 70# but they go to 300#.

The wife and I took an Alaskan cruise with the Princess cruise lines last year during the last week of june. The kings were just starting to enter the rivers. So I would suspect you will be a little early for them. Your cruise line should be able to set you up with a trip at any of the ports. Drop me an email if you need more info.

I took the Alaskan Cruise twice, but both times in August. You can fish in Ketchikan from the bridge if there is anything running at this time...Chinook maybe? Most ships will not let you bring fish onboard, but you might want to ask before if it can be prepared for dinner. 3/8 ounce orange jigs or spoons should do the trick and I believe it's single hook only.

Holland American Line 2 years ago. Juneau.Flew in on a bush plane. Rods, bait(flys) and waders are supplied. Caught a lot of large salmon going up this river. Bear sign all over--saw 2. Guide carried a sawed off shotgun on a sling. Cannot keep any fish. Had a great time.
