When you fish the rainy river do get both MN and Canada license plus a boarder crossing pass? Or is there enough water and room to just stay on the MN side. I hear if you cross that line and you don't have a Canada lic you can pay a big fine. So does everyone get both or what? Thanks

MN only there is no need for a Canadian license as there are plenty of fishing spots on the U.S. side. Just figure an imaginery line down the center and stay to the U.S side and you will be fine.

Was up there last weekend and it is kinda surprising. No boats to speak of on the Canadian side, is there fishing season closed? I talked to one guy and he said that there was a group of boats that got tagged on Saturday for being on the Canadian side. $155.00 per person in the boat, I kinda expected it to be higher.

Am thinking about heading up there and fishing for some Sturgeon when they open up. Have never tried that and it looks like they would be a fun catch. Got to be Ginormous to keep them though.

Here is one my father-in-law caught, we didn't have great luck last Sunday. Don't think we were far enough East.

I think the cross border pass and License are way less expensive than the fine and possible loss of equipment . It is tough to guage where you are on the river . The Canadian side is much less fished on the river and the lake ,we tend to do better on the Canadian side . Be sure you have a pass port (a minnesota drivers license will not work) if you cross over to get the license and border pass the canucks don't seem to care but getting back into the States can be a hassle if you don't have your papers.

Bump.

I fish the canadian side 4-5 times per week, I live in Manitou so were right on the good spots for walleye and sturgeon.

Last fall we pulled in numerous 10lbers, the fishing here is just amazing.

This winter it hasn't been as productive, but it's still great fishing. Can't wait for softwater season though

Don't cross that centerline w/ minnows in your boat! :badidea:

The river is patrolled very well, and few get away with any violations. The Canuks use little boats, wear those hats, and they blend in very well on the river until they are right on top of you.
