Shimano. I've never been terribly impressed with Pinnacle and Shimano has always been really good to me.
Better to have and not need than to need and not have!

I had a bad experience with some pinnacles and switched to shimano. I use the shimano symetry. Great reel.

I agree with everyone else. I have fished exclusivly with Shimano the last 8 years and have never had a problem. Another bonus is their customer service, very helpful if you ever need a part.

The old Deadbolts were known for gear meshing as for the new ones? I have yet hear whether the problem still works it way "into" the reels with use. Shimano.

Another vote for shimano. I have used them exclusivley for last 10 years and no problems. And of the three guides I have used in Canada, Shimano was the choice of all for spinning reels. That's what sold me on them orginally.
Another vote for Shimano. Dad bought me my first shimano reel 17 years ago, and I still have it, and it still works like a champ, as do all the others I own.

This will be my first season with a baitcaster. I have used Shimano spinning reels exclusively for the last 18 yrs and have had no problems with any of them. However when I was looking for a baitcaster, I was really impressed by the Pinnacle Tetra HS and ended up getting that one, as smooth as oil on glass. But hey we're fishermen, you can never have too many rods and reels, so buy them both.
I have 3 Shimano rods & reels and am very happy with them. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

I must be the only person who has'nt had a problem with Deadbolts. They have worked great for me year 'round without a problem. I have never owned a high dollar Shimano, but I have had a few mid-range {50-70 dollar} ones, and they got "clunky" after a couple seasons.

I have a couple Pinnacle Deadbolt Ltd. reels and they have given me no problems.
