Ok here's the deal. Last week i asked you guys if St Croix Rods are worth the money and you all convinced me.
My wife is having a party tonight and she has a friend who's boyfriend knows someone that can get St Croix Rods for significantly cheaper than what i can get one for at Gander Mountain.
My problem is i need to give this info to her friend tonight and i don't have a clue as to what model to ask her to get for me.
I fish mostly in the St. Louis River and local resivoirs around Duluth. I mostly troll spinners and cast jigs. I use 6 pound test line. Mostly 1/4 ounce jigs. I don't want to spend $200. I just need a good all around general purpose rod that would be around $120 retail or so. Probably 6'6" or so. What model fits this bill?
Thx so much for your quick responses.

The following was cut and pasted from the Cabela's web site. I suggest any of these - they are from the St. Croix "premier" series. You can go to the Cabela's site for a full line up but I would think you'd be happy with any of the following, depending on your needs. The prices are retail and the model numbers are St. Croix model numbers so you can use them to get the rod from any source. These are all spinning rods...
PS66MLF* 6'6'' 1 ML Fast 4-10 1/8-1/2 $80.00
PS66MLF2 6'6'' 2 ML Fast 4-10 1/8-1/2 $85.00
PS66MF2 6'6'' 2 M Fast 6-12 1/4-5/8 $90.00
PS70MLF* 7' 1 ML Fast 4-10 1/8-1/2 $85.00
PS66MF* 6'6'' 1 M Fast 6-12 1/4-5/8 $85.00
PS70MF* 7' 1 M Fast 6-12 1/4-5/8 $90.00

I agree the Avid series fits you guidelines. You really should get to a store and check them out first. These rods are very light and sensitive so if you had to choose, the medium would not be a problem. However you indicate 6lb test as your main line choice. In that case med light may be the better match. I personally have the 6'3" med fast action for my jigging rod and it is sweet. You may want a little longer if using for rigs and spinners often.

If the Avid rods are in your price range go with them -- either an AS66MF or AS66MLF should work for you. The MF is a medium action and MLF is medium light and it will depend on your preference which one fits you. If the Avid cost is prohibitive go to the Premier Graphite in a medium or medium light depending on your prference. Good Luck!

You could try using the "Rod Finder" tool on their website. Their website is www.stcroixrods.com.
Good luck!

I would agree with all the comments so far - Avid if you can afford it, if not, Premier will also do you fine.
6'6" length would be good, I would stay with medium action if you're using it for any trolling.
The model numbers that have a 2 at the end mean they are 2 piece - only get this if you can't possibly store/transport a 1 piece. Alot of what you are paying for is the sensitivity - and a 1 piece is far more sensitive than a 2.
If you truly can get them at a great price, if you can, buy a few, and sell the rest for half the difference between your cost and retail - you'll have no problem moving them, and this may recover alot of the cost of your rod.
Anyway, sounds like you get a great rod for a good price. Enjoy...

You can get a great rod for les than $120.00, even at Gander Mountain, if you go with the Premier rod. If you want to step it up to the prices that you listed you should be able to get and Avid Rod in that range. I would go with a Medium/Light or a Medium, if you go with the Premier I would get them both. ($150.00)

WOW thx guys. I'm gonna go with the Avid AS66MLF. I've always used a heavier action rod so i think i'm gonna go with the Medium Light for a big change. And i've always used 6' rods so it will be fun going to a 6"6er.
Thx again!!!
This board rocks:}
Avid AS66MF -- awesome rod for jigging, very light, very sensitive, overall great rod.

Hands down, the 6'8" medium with the extra fast tip. This is an awesome rod that will work great for jig fishing and live bait rigs.
If that chance doesn't work out, watch ebay....I just picked up a new Legend 6'3' for $155 + shipping.
