I am planning a corporate getaway to Houghton Lake, MI on either May 10-12 or 17-19. Does anyone out there have any walleye fishing information? Starting spots, baits, techniques? Thanks.
It has been a while since I have been there but I have always been successful drift fishing using a small floating jig tipped with a leech or minnow. PUt a small split shot about 18" above and let it rip. The lake has changed quite a bit due to the Milfoil explosion from what I have heard. But I always had good luck in the north Bay area of the lake and also working the point on the east side of the North bay. Find the humps in the lake and you can usually catch fish. I have tried trolling rapalas but have not had much success. It has been about 4 years since I have fished the lake though so things may be way different. I follow www.houghtonlakefishing.com whenever I can just to get some updates. it may be helpful when it comes closer to time to go since season is closed now.

I'm really sorry to hear about the milfoil in Houghton. I grew up fishing that lake. I still have the east bay imprinted in my mind like I was just there yesterday and it's been 20 years!

The Michigan Walleye Tour has a tournament scheduled for May 18-19. Could be up to 120 boats. The week before might be best.
