I have an electric knife that draws 1.2 amps and runs with 110 Volts AC. Is the wattage draw = 1.2 amp x 110 volts = 132 watts? I think that is right but it has been along time since the last electrical class I had.

Dave,
depends on brand of knife. my mister twister says 100 watts, wife's sunbeam says 160 watts. I believe you are right...amps times voltage equals watts. maybe someone else can confirm that.

Mike, I have a Mr Twister Electric Knife. Looking on Cabelas website they say that this knife draws 1.2 amps . The figure of 100 watts you have found on your knife would be close to what I have figured above if I did the right calculation above. I have found a power invertor on West Marine that is rated for 175 watts so it would appear that it might power a typical electric knife from a 12 Volt battery.

(DC) WATTS= VOLTS x AMPS
(AC) WATTS= VOLTS x AMPS x PF (POWERFACTOR)
POWERFACTOR= INPUT WATTS÷(V x A)
In your case, you can do this calculation:
110 Volts x 1.2 Amps = 132 Watts @ 91.6 Ohms
I would look for a 150 Watt converter.
